Fuel Tank Needs Replacement -- The one I need is no longer available (1979 633)

My 1979 633 got a new fuel tank ten years ago (2008). After only ten years, I now have a leaking seam and I'm not sure if I should repair or replace. If I want to replace it, I'll have to find a similar one and modify the neck. This one (fuel tank 16111176518) looks like it could work but I'll be taking a gamble on whether it will fit properly. My other option is to buy a used one at Bavarian Recycling for about $300 (they offer a one year warranty) but a used one is likely to soon put me in the same position I'm in now.

Can anyone give me any advice? I've owned my 633 for 21 years and still love it. It's my only car, but not an everyday driver.

I was also wondering if anyone has modified a newer style plastic tank to fit.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and respond.

Bavarian recycling . to me anyway, is a rip off. If you go on line a look at Hemmings Motor News under services offered, you will find several very professional companies that do gas tank restoration. Short of that, any good loca radiator repair shop can easily repair the seam on yours. It is not a major job. Once done they can pressure test it.

    87 635CSi, 88 635CSi,
I bought a used one off ebay from an M6 and got really lucky, it was in nice shape. Cleaned and sealed it and swapped it into my '88, then cleaned and sealed the original tank and stashed it for future use ... prob for my '87 when I put it back on the road.

btw... my 88 has never run better since I went to a single in tank pump. Still loving it, faster starts, no trouble under 1/8 tank. But a CLEAN tank is paramount especially with the crap fuel we have these days.
