BMW e60 transmission fault, possible reduction in acceleration

I got this transmission fault while driving my Bmw e60 on my way home..the current mileage is 90,000km.... I was driving and then that error came up on the screen. It said “ trans. Fault , possible reduction in acceleration , possible to continue journey, have the problem checked by bmw “ then the car started to respond very dead and was going at 3-4000 rpm with 30kmh.... I then pulled over and switched off and switched back on the car in which the error went away and the car was driving normal for like 3 minutes then the error came back on.... then I restarted the car again and there was no error and I drove moderately for 2 minutes till I reached home and this time the second gear kicked in kinda rough ... any advice would be helpful... will get it checked out soon but I’m only studying it that I may be deep in expenses to buy a new transmission

Happened to me many times.

Result was a new transmission after 22K miles put in by BMW. The new one started doing the same thing shortly before I dumped the car.
