    Inexpensive Nomex for track use

Not sure if this is where to post this but if it help out anyone then good. My car is D/E use only and I get out around twice a month. In the summer it is hot and I normally wear my OMP race suit. I was looking for a cooler alternative and remembered a good friend wore his flight suit. I looked up nomex flight suits and you can get one for a ridiculously low amount use or from military surplus. I want to be able to use it as a jump suit so I can get out of it after a run. If you run a caged car some tracks are starting to require you to wear full nomex so this is an added benefit. OMP race suit was $600. Nomex flight suit new is around $200, used, shipped to me in my size $50.
Curious to see if the pants allow removal without taking off my shoes but either way I am all good.

One of the things I see is that I'm not seeing the specifications anywhere on the suit. Tech inspectors will be looking for FIA/SFI type tags... so you may catch some flak on that.

John, this is for D/E use. I have a full nomex OMP suit but it is hot as all when the temps are up to 95 plus. My goal was to find something that was fire proof and I could wear it over shorts. Think this will be a whole lot better. Not intended for race use.

Got it. We do actually have a couple of HPDE drivers wearing these suits. Combined with Nomex socks and gloves, it does provide protection.

I have a suit coming this week that I got for $50. Curious to see if it does what I am looking for. Would like a bit cooler but still the fire protection. Hope it works

Cool, there are a couple middle-aged P-car drivers around here that wear those. I always assumed they were just jerks who wanted us to all know they used to fly
    F-4s.
If God meant for man to motor-swap LS engines into track cars, He wouldn't have created Corvettes.

When I instruct I wear nomex dickies style work pants and a nomex TShirt (along with my nomex race socks and boxers).
These stop gaps for DE are good in that they don’t ignite like cotton or polyester would should flame lick into the cockpit but they do not provide any TPP like a real race suit does.
You will still got burned, but your clothing will not also be burning.

    Have a $50 butt? buy a $50 suit...

Maybe consider a cool shirt? One with cool packs rather than the tubing. I instruct too and 20 min in the car with a student in the summer really isn't that big a deal. You can get hot yes, but you're not really doing enough to get overheated. Its not like you're double stinting in a 6 hour enduro or something...

I've personally seen bad fires at DE's and if you ever need it, you'll be glad you wore your 3-layer instead of something more "convenient". Way better than a stint in the hospital getting skin grafts.
