No I dont think that any other hood will work.
There was at least one change with the facelifted front-end that would make it incompatable.

any e46 will work but that is not true.
Coupe and Sedan hoods will not interchange.
Coupe and Touring hoods will not interchange.
Coupe pre-and post facelift will bolt up but are not identical. The post facelift hood will have "eyebrows" over your headlights. You may like this look, but it is not factory correct.
I would suggest finding a nice example of a 2000 E46 hood in the junkyard and taking it to the body-shop for a spray. It is pretty easy to pain a hood when it is off the car and should run you a grand total of about $600 for an as-new OEM hood with good paint.
