Mine is screeching pretty bad, so I'm planning on replacing it. I only see the OEMs on ebay for ~400 without housing (+130). Are there any cheaper plug and play options? I'd rather not hack something together.
BEHR makes a decent one for under 300. I just installed one like this in my E32. Very good. Much like OEM.

W124 is pretty close, if you have an E23 blower out...send me some measurements and I can help. Cages are different diameter, but dimensionally is quite close. Hell, you can use some W124 vacuum pod guts in these cars.

@Hitman I don't have it out yet, and won't be able to check for a bit. Do you know if this fan will fit an 83 733i? Numbers dont seem to match up, but looks correct in photos.
Summit has a great return policy.
BTW, removing those cages is a MFer, I tried on my old Ljet blower assy and broke them. :/

Someone in that link said the "boiling water trick" to remove the cages. Any idea on that method?
I have used that on MB ones, my BMW ones were so brittle it made no difference. They just shattered.

Does anyone sell replacement cages separately? Did some searching and didn't come up with anything. Am thinking of buying one of the four seasons motors and figured I might as well put on new cages instead of repurposing the old ones if that was possible, maybe aluminum ones?
Boiling water would be a bad idea, but HOT water works well to help them not shatter.
