FS: Steel toothed wheel + enforcement bush for electric rear sunshade

    Pics: http://de.tinypic.com/usermedia.php?...c#.VOqDO2ccSUk http://de.tinypic.com/usermedia.php?...c#.VOqDjGccSUk
Details about installation etc here: http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...-made-of-steel
Made to replace the weak original "plastic" toothed wheel which usually loses the teeth over the years and then the rear sunblind starts to rattle and is often inoperatable. That is the large one of the 2 inside the gear. Used in all E32, E34, E31 and even E38 till 1996 for sure, even some till 1998, also some Benz and Audi 5000 models.
Note: I can only deliver the toothed wheel in version with HEX bolt, not the torx version, which was introduced from 1996 on in E38 and others (no definitive clear cut of change known as even in some 1998 models the hex version was used, so please check your rear sunshade motor), see here the 2 different versions http://de.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=1...7#.XFl0h--P6Uk
Shipped by SAL from Japan US$65.00 (usually takes about 2-3 weeks for example to the U.S., non-trackable, non-insured). Alternatively shipped by registered air parcel, plus $10.00. Optional enforcement bush $ 8/piece.
Please contact me by PM with complete shipping address and requested shipping method and I will let you know my Paypal details.

Hint to extend the life of your original gear: disassemble it, remove all the old hardened grease and fill it with new grease and make sure that also the mechanical parts of the sunshade system are well greased and run smooth.

The steel toothed wheel is for the electric gear/motor unit of the rear sunshade. In case of a manual gear you have to remove the sunshade and check the spring inside. There is a DIY info on my website under fixes>>blinds>>"Rear side window quartershade will not retract fully". You have to 'rewind' the spring. Same procedure for the rear, rewind the spring.

Just did this myself with the new gear and brass bushing. You do need to be fairly exact when drilling out the hole for the bushing.

I found my motor was still having issues getting the blind past the 2/3 point, so I took it out, loosened and refit the aluminum bars, lightly greased the rails and it moved much more freely then. Mine had been broken for quite some time even from the previous owner so it probably seized up slightly.

    Questionl:
Mine works, however it,when lowering, it makes a grinding noise for a few seconds after shade is all the way down, however it doesn't do it when going up. Will the parts you're selling repair that?

The motor control unit of the sunshade works by increased amps with a delay to stop and most probably you hear it grinding because some teeth are gone and the motor is still trying to move the shade down, because there is a delay time to switch off.
But to be sure, open the gear up and check the toothed wheel.

Hi Shogun, any chance you could reply to my thread and LMK if you think I need a new steel wheel for the electric blind or if my blind itself is the problem?

Might be just a matter of bent frame of the blind or lose screws, or old hard grease. I replied there too, here the most important from a Technical Service Info to the workshops on that subject, translate that:

    Technische Info VK-23 Pollatschek Group: 51 511642000 02.05.97 Sonnenschutzrollo der Heckscheibe defekt E31, E32, E34, E36, E38, E39 Beanstandung: Elektrisches Heckscheiben-Sonnenschutzrollo ohne Funktion.
Ursache: Getriebezahnrad im Sonnenschutzrollo-Antrieb beschaedigt beziehungsweise Lagertoleranzen im Antriebsmotor

    Maßnahme:

Shogun, considering your gear and bush,
there is something wrong with this sun blind, ( Won't go up or down) it really look good
inside gear housing, the worm spins fine so that's good.
i tryed turning that lil brown wheel its seem tight but who knows, anyway do you have the small brown gear? Too
my large wheel is made of metal, I do see a small area like 5 spline with lil stwist.
    thats in advance

Maybe the control unit is the problem. See here the ETM section http://www.e32-schrauber.de/bmw/date...nshade_mod.jpg and some info in German language http://www.e32-schrauber.de/bmw/s-heckrollo.htm
The small brown gear I do not have, only the large one with hex nut. For the small one there is almost no demand, maybe once a year someone is asking.

You can drive the unit directly with + & - to the motor but be carefull and if it does not start to move remove the leads.

Shogun, any idea if the wheel fits the sunshade from an 03 Audi S8? I have to diagnose a recent issue with my sunblind but just in case I wanted to ask.

To be sure, you will have to check and disassemble what is inside the gear. 2003 Audi is probably the newer version, which I do not have. Audi, Mercedes Benz of similar built years like our E31, E32, E34 and some early E38 had the same gear and motor maker. BMW changed to the other version gradually from around 1996 with the E38, but even sonetimes E38 from 1998 have the older version like in E31. I can only deliver the toothed wheel in version with HEX bolt, not the torx version, which was introduced from 1996 on in E38 and others, see here the 2 different versions http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=1jrztz&s=7#.WL-AKO_auUk
It is not only a difference of torx or hex bolt, also the teeth angle is different, see here, new http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2mcs...7#.WL-A2O_auUk
I was told my steel version fits for Audi gear p/n (4A0959733) to replace the weak original toothed wheel such as for example (European type mentioned, please check the type description in your country)
    Audi 100/S4 (4A, C4) (1991 bis/till 1994)
    Audi A6/S6/S6plus (4A, C4) (1994 bis/till 1997)
    Audi V8 (4C, D11) (1989 bis/till 1994)
    Audi A8/S8 (4D, D2) (1994 bis/till 1999)
    Audi quattro

I recall the post where it was confirmed that the Audi D2 sunshade used your gear. This car although 2003 is still considered a D2...but I will have to confirm. If I pull the sunshade to fix my problem I have the gear I bought from you to confirm fitment. I have both the audi v8 and S8 so I was planning on buying some more gears from you at some point .

Let me know your findings, as I can only check the internet and do not have the real Audi, VW or Benz parts at hand, so I only supply to those people and often they just order and do not tell me the exact model, just word of mouth in their forums that my toothed wheel fits. I checked with Audi p/n above and audiusa website mentions: MOTOR #: 4A0959733 $ 321.30: fits 15 vehicle variants: 2 models, 15 variants between 1998 - 2003. Audi A8 3.7L FWD Base 1998/99, Audi A8 4.2L AWD Base Quattro 199/9, Audi A8 Base Quattro 2000/1/2/3, Audi A8 L Quattro 2000/1/2/3, 2003, Audi S8 Base 2001/2/3. http://www.oemepc.com/audi/part_sing...9015/part_id/0
    German spec: VW Sonnenschutzrollomotor #: 4A0 959 733 respect. 4A0959733, fits for: AUDI 100 (C4) 1991 >1994, AUDI A6 (4A) 1995 >1997, AUDI A8 (4D) 1994 > 2002, AUDI A8 (4E) ab 2002 > 2003, AUDI V8 (4C) ab 1989 >1994.
