Motor turned off, ignition still on !!

not sure if its the extreme heat im driving in these days, 30 degrees C, but tonight got home turned off the motor and all the dash lights still stayed on ! Fan as well...

tried turning key on/off several times with no effect... feels like a short,

this happen to me 5 years ago when water got trapped inside the fuse box compartment, by the time i figured it out (weeks) the water had dried up and the short was gone and never returned until today.

yesterday i was near my parked car at home when i heard a DING like when the computer gives you an error message, yet there was nothing on the screen... odd.

this morning before driving to work i noticed the ignition flickering my aux water pump...

now its sitting in the garage with the batteries disconnected...

    any thoughts??

so when the idiot lamps light up take the cover off the column and unplug the switch?

an hour after i posted this, i went to reconnect the batteries, the idiot lamps went on and off a few times for short periods then off like normal... started the car, turned it off and nothing wrong...

im currently looking for a tall tall bridge with a decent ramp so i can drive my car off of it...

Have you fiddled with your front marker lights (in the FTP light strip) recently? The usual mod of shorting the two contacts on the DRL/sidelights to make them brighter has exactly the effect you described on CANADA models only - when you switch the ignition OFF the car keeps running!

Thanks Timm, this morning all was well, no evidence of any gremlins prior to driving to work... drove to work in 30 minutes, parked and turned off ignition... no problems...

once again would extreme heat affect the wiring? this morning was a much cooler drive...

i will look at the FTP wiring over the weekend...

If you haven't fiddled with anything recently then, as 8eights says, quite likely the ignition switch.
