2000 BMW 740il - Driveable Project Car

Hello enthusiasts

This is a driveable project car. I will let it go for members of this forum only for $1,600.


A lot of work has been put into this thing by me and previous owners including timing chain guides, rebuilt Vanos gears, new valve cover gaskets, timing chain tensioner, intake manifold gasket, PCV valve, front and rear intake manifold gaskets, throttle gasket, heater control valve rebuild and hoses, Bosch platinum sparkplugs, alternator serpentine belt, and fan blower motor. The car is beautiful. Paint shines nicely. There is rust at the bottom of three doors and small bubble rust in rear passenger fender. Car runs very good, tracks straight, cold air, all electronics work, and no SES (Service Engine Soon) light.


The car will need a replacement engine. This is not due to neglect. Car has been well taken care by previous responsible adult owners. There is an engine ticking noise due to "piston slap" in cylinder No. 4 and slight intake manifold hum due to non-oem PCV Valve. Cylinder No.4 has dry compression of 125 psi, the other seven have 175-180 psi. I have been running with STP High Mileage Oil Treatment and Engine Restorer. The M62TUB44 engine is one of the best BMW had to offer and is an aluminum block with Alusil coated cylinders. This engine cannot be bored oversize as this will remove the Alusil coating. A solution is an engine replacement. You can swap the good parts (timing chain guides, vanos, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, intake manifold gaskets, PCV and OSV valve, etc) to the donor engine and you will have an awesome running BMW. Donor engine from parts car more economical. Don’t bother asking shops to do this swap, do it yourself with a buddy or your dad and save money and learn a lot. The end result will be a satisfying and enjoyable car.


The good:
- Body in great condition, this is a well-cared car by previous responsible adults.
- All electronics work (exterior and interior lights, mirrors, sunroof, rear defroster, all windows and locks, radio, CD, GPS, rear curtain, etc)
- Automatic transmission shifts smoothly.
- Car tracks straight.
- M-parallel wheels in excellent condition, including spare.
- Rear tire at 50% and front tire at 70% thread.
- Complete tool set in trunklid.
- Beautiful interior. No tears, rips in leather.
- Factory 4:3 nav has a CD and works fine.
- OEM floor mats and foot rest.
- Infrared absorbing front windshield.
- Clean Title
- I have some documentation for repairs done.


The bad:
- Piston Slap.
- Slight hum in intake manifold due to non-oem PCV Valve.
- Rust at the bottom of three doors and rear passenger fender.
- Valley pan gasket needs replacement.
- Sagging headliner.
