    Fuel Economy Gains

Hi all, in the past Iv'e mentioned how my fuel economy has improved since using xcelplus in my E34 535i. Anyway did a longish highway trip (600 kms) yesterday involving 110/80 kmh speeds and averaged 8.6 litres per 100km which is about 28 mpg! I have no financial interest in this company, just want to share the outcome. Motor spins noticeable easier too!

This was the old slick50 from the 90’s? Anyway good if u got a gain out of it but adding friction modifiers etc to oil can cause issues. Sometimes when we add stuff that’s supposed to improve economy of fuel we subcontously drive in a more economical fashion especially in city driving situations. Anyway good for you. A efficiency gain on the highway is more quantifiable.

True. I have to admit that even when I'm on the freeway in my 535 I manage to get the fuel consumption to about 9L/per100km. By driving carefully enough I can even average 10.8 combined but I can hardly resist getting some revs going sometimes, it would be a waste not to do some revs in a big German six.

It's the old slick 50 from the 80s, back when it was MLM sold like amway. Apparently oil companies bought the name in the 90s so it wasn't the same stuff as the original sold from the boot of a car stuff.
I'm not terribly impressed with highway mileage of my 525 either. It can get 9.5l/100km in best world highway use and that's pretty bad. My old EL falcon 4L could get 8.9l/100km and the AU could even get under 8L/100km and they were 4L 4spds. I thought the 2.5L 5spd would shine on the highway but it doesn't do as well as the old falcons. Same goes for mixed or city use. I think the BMW needs more torque though, not some miracle juice.
This stuff is touted as the original 1978 slick 50, and I think we've come a long way since then with manufacturers doing literally anything to improve official fuel consumption ratings these days and oil companies bending over backwards to accommodate. If you want fuel efficiency start with an engine not so old (in design and age). I can live with 12l/100km mainly city/cold driving

I'd be wary of long-term consequences from any oil additive.

That's because it's crazy over-geared from the factory. 3.23 with no overdrive? I haven't experimented with an M50 much, but my economy improved ~10% in a 544iT by switching from a 3.15 to a 2.65, despite actually driving faster on the highway with the taller diff.
