Hi All, i was wondering if any one has had experience with melted distributor rotors. I bought new coils, distributors, and rotors a few months back. All Bosch.
One of the rotors Right side seems to have melted through to the camshaft.

Some pics to show the old one and the new one with the hole. Now the hole wasnt that big when i pulled it off. But it was all charred. I used a screw driver to remove the charred bits and that hole is the result.
Should i just replace the rotor or is it reasonable to think there is an issue with the plug wires? The plugs are fairly new. I had them replaced 30000 miles ago.
Burning is usually due to a poor contact with the rotor - the resistance increases the heat generated at the contact. So, I would hazard a guess that the centre contact is just not connecting properly with the rotor.

Sometimes the center pin in the distributor cap gets stuck or breaks, check that, http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...3658c02122.jpg
plus also check the ignition coils http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...=ignition+coil

The distributors are new and both look the same. the center pin is pushed out by the spring.
It must have just been a defective rotor. I cleaned up one of the old ones and put it back in. Its running fine now.
I'm gonna keep an eye on it as it took a couple months for that one to burn out.
I've just never seen a rotor burned through like that before.
