This is the third series of questions I have in regards to my car (1998 528i M52). If anyone could check out my other two posts and maybe leave some advice I would greatly appreciate it as I am new to the BMW community and I feel a bit lost when it comes to fixing my car with something so delicate and important. Anyways, I wanted to ask if anyone knew the proper procedure for removing the camshafts from one cylinder head and installing them onto another. I understand they are under spring pressure and are hallow which means they can snap if not done correctly. Therefore, is there a certain position to which I can rotate the cams to facilitate the removal and facilitate the installation for them? Does anyone know the proper torque for the bearings that hold them in place and if there is a tightening sequence as well? I'm on a budget which is why I plan to do these things myself, especially since I've seen people do it themselves without special tools other than their knowledge of the procedure. I also know that some people require a special BMW tool to press the cams in while they tighten them down, so if anyone knows a way around it or if it is not always necessary then I would appreciate it greatly. This is not to say that I will forcefully try to do everything myself if it proves to be beyond my abilities, but I am no stranger to fixing cars and I simply prefer to be as knowledgeable on the subject as possible before I attempt to try anything. Google does not always provide the answers to these questions and while I was able to obtain information from AllData at school I am currently not in class during the summer so I find it difficult to find reliable information regarding this particular vehicle. This is why I turn to this community for help. If anyone could please help me out on this or any other of my posts I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
Do you know about the online BMW TIS website www.newtis.info ? If not, you may want to bookmark/save to favorites for future reference.
You just input the last 7 digits of your VIN, which will give you links to wiring diagrams and technical info...but most of all...it has a search box that allows you to type in key words to help find what you may be looking for.
Good luck.

I'll definitely check it out. Thank you so much for your help! And you're all good brother I don't judge haha.
This may help. https://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/techarticles/E36-Camshaft-Removal/E36-camshaft-removal.htm#
I have successfully used this method to remove the cams. Don't worry about the fact that it says E36. The M52 engine was used in both your E39 and the E36 (among others...)
