The #22 temp switch in this diagram does not work in my car, preventing the electric fan from turning on.
There is a 91 or 99 degree Celsius switch listed for this part, which one should I pick for an early 323i with a stock cooling system (no mechanical fan) and no A/C? I'm leaning towards the 91 just to play it safe.
my first 6 cylinder e21(1977) had two temp switches for a twin speed fan and resistor for the low speed which had failed along with the higher speed temp switch .The connections on the switches were different sizes too. if you remove the switch and clean the flat sides of the nut on the switch the operating temp of the switch is stamped on the side..try bypassing the temp switch to make sure the fan works before buying a temp switch as it could be the resistor playing up...

Thanks for the info. I've already checked the fan/resistor and bypassed the top temp switch to confirm. I was wondering if the other one was a temp sensor or another fan switch.
Do you have any idea if the two #22 part numbers correspond to each switch, or is the lower one missing from the diagram?
both temp switches fitted in the aluminium pipe fitting on the left side of the radiator are for the electric fan. The 91cel is connected to the resistor for slow speed fan and if the engine gets hotter the 99cel switch kicks in the fan at full speed..
