Did some ignition work today (changed complete wire set and cap/rotor and immediately thereafter, the oil pressure idiot light is not coming on with the key in the ‘2’ position. Situation with with the 91 850i is getting from bad to worse. In the last month, there was a problem with the heater core (now fixed), then the engine started misfiring, triggering the limp home mode and trans safe mode. At first, the car cleared itself after awhile and will run fine for a few days, then the same problem returns. This prompted me to changed the ignition parts, hoping for a fix, but unfortunately, no dice, car is still misfiring. What could cause the ‘no oil pressure light’ situation? Checked the switch connector and it appears okay, also checked the cluster bulb by switching with other working bulbs. Could a bad pressure switch cause this or is there a more serious engine problem? There are no fault codes generated using the stomp test or with the Peake Research reader.

The wire loom to the pressure switch is very thin, check theses wires first if they are broken.

Shogun is correct... my wires were broken too...

Yes indeed! Pulled the connector rubber boot off and one wire was detached completely off the connector pin. Must have damaged it when I was pulling out the ignition wire set.
