Hi. I'd like to change the bearing in the rear OUTER CV joint of my E30. Can anyone tell me how to open it up and get inside? I saw a post somewhere with info on this, but it was old, the pics didn't work and I didn't really understand the instructions. Thanks
The last time I replaced that cv joint it was very difficult to seperate the axle parts and I think your better off replacing the whole axle with both cv joints as a unit.
This is probably what you are looking for http://e30performance.info/viewtopic.php?t=2026
I tried this and was not successful. I couldn't get it to seal properly, I guess I buggered up the cups. Ended up replacing the axles. Interesting learning experience tho...as my entire E30 project has been!

Tomstin - thanks for the post. That is about the inner joint, though. It only talks about putting the boot on the outer joint. I'll keep looking
The dust shield is crimped onto the outer CV outside race and is not really able to be removed without destroying it. Furthermore its not readily available to go out and purchase, and even if you could crimping it again would be an issue.
Wash the old grease out with solvent and a brush until its as clean as humanly possible and then repack it before installing a new boot.

Thanks Stuck (sorry - no umlaut on my keyboard). I have decided to simply buy new half axles.
