I picked up a ‘98 328i convertible last week. Got it really cheap, but it’s in need of some tlc for sure! One of those things is replacing two broken windows. The drivers door window and the passenger side rear quarter window were both smashed out of it. Found replacement windows on eBay and have them coming.
I’ve done a little research on replacing the windows, but I still have a few questions. First, may I assume the top needs to be down to replace this window? That’s one of the other things this car needs, as the top isn’t operable right now. It’s the fully auto top, so if I unlatch it manually, will I be able to fully stow it in order to access that quarter window?
Also, once it has been replaced, is there any kind of a reset I need to do so the car knows the position of the windows?
Thank you for any help you can provide!
Five years ago, I replaced the rear quarter window regulator. Here's my DIY thread, which may be of use to you:

It's a tight space to work in -- good luck!
