Can anyone point me in the direction for a link to where I can purchase the fix for the wobbly side mirrors on a 98 Z3? I've searched but cant find.
Thanks in advance!
How does it wobble? The glass or the whole mirror housing?
Two bolts hold the mirror base to the door shell. They could just be loose.
The mirror is a complicated hazard. I thought I had a rattle in my driver door when closing it, but traced it to the innards of the mirror. I am very hesitant to go into that mirror over a mere rattle.

I've never heard of this, but I guess the Z3 mirrors are prone to failure due to aluminum corrosion:

That's the same video as in Post #3.

If you're talking about the glass shaking, I was never able to come up with a fix other than pressing a small piece of tacky putty in the top right corner (drivers side) of the glass to housing space.
Not just the glass....it's the entire housing, glass and all on both sides. I believe I read somewhere that they are prone to failure due to the corrosion of the internals. Somewhere along the way I saw a video/website that had the "fix" for the internals that were replacing the original internals with a plastic like structure. I made sure my bases were tight, so all is well on that front. My biggest fear is having to replace the entire mirror on both sides, which is crazy costly.....
My passenger side is perfectly fine but with the driver's side I went as far as depressing the sheet metal under the rear of the base to get a firmer lock down to the door. No improvement at all from that or angle shaving inside the base. I gave up and tacked the corner for an acceptably small amount of shake. I've read of internal spring failure of course but that doesn't account in my case and spending on replacement parts was too risky for me.
OP, I think this may be what you're talking about: http://www.spiegel-z3.de/die_reparatur.html

Both mirrors on my Z3 were broken, that is the aluminum frame had broken. I purchased a set of the replacement frames listed above on Ebay and they worked very well. The video was easy to follow and changing the bases was very simple. The only down side was the bases are black and the original bases were painted to match the cars color. The bases being black actually looks ok but will probably get painted when I do some touchup work.
What's that you say?

That photo was from the 1st month I had the car back in 2015. We had a freak snow storm that day. It was 60 and sunny a couple hours earlier. In fact that was the only time I got caught in the M in snow, and since it was a Hawaii car, it was the first time the car ever saw snow. I had PO's baldish summer rubber on and an interesting drive home that day.
