    WTB HEADER 4 cyl 1.8

Wondering if any legion members have a used header they might want to part with. A new one is somewhat expensive from Ireland engineering and have not found any other options from other vendors. Does not have to be ceramic coated. So dig through your part's pile and please get back to me. Thank's in advance.

Which Ireland Engineering header is too much for you? I've been told that the "Shorty Header - 2002/E21" is NOT a bolt-on affair for the E21. And the "Street/Track Step-Style Header - 2002/E21" is definitely not a bolt-on as well.

    I have a "BMW 2002 M10 E21 E30 1.5" Diameter Shorty Header For The M10" from Top End Performance: https://www.racetep.com/automaker/bm...ty-header.html

It works. Bought it after my stock exhaust manifold cracked in half. Its a little bit cheaper than the Ireland one. Still gonna need to weld it to your existing exhaust.

I also have the TEP header and it is rather nice for the $$$. I did need to massage a couple of the tubes on the underside at cylinders 1 and 2 to allow better clearance for the nut/studs but the flange is well made and all the stud holes were perfectly aligned - something I cannot say for other lower cost headers available for M5x engines, etc.

You will need ask TEP to install or have your exhaust shop install an O2 bung in the collector of the header and you will need to fabricate a pipe to adapt from the collector to the inlet of the converter. I used a classic 3-bolt flange arrangement welded to the header and then another welded to the custom downpipe to make future removal possible (for trans work, etc.). Any good exhaust shop would be able to make all of this work for not too much additional $$$.

I have not heard of anyone making a 100% drop-in header/downpipe for our cars.

MSDS makes the TEP long tube header. Not sure about their shorty one. The long tube will bolt on but as always long tubes have less ground clearance.

I've been running this exact header almost 20yrs. Looked around whats out there last year during our build. Reblasted, massaged inside the primary weld penetrations with sander, painted, used again on the current racecar build. It works very very well and honestly no difference than stahl.

By the collector design it appears msds may also make the shorty for TEP. Still excellent headers IMO no reason to go more $ than these.

Thank you guy's for your help, was not aware MSDS even existed and will contact them in the following day's to come. Installing a new engine (4cyl 1.8 rebuilt 0 miles) so I thought it would be a good time to splurge on a header system for the grey monster.

If just want some omph for free, could just take an air die grinder carbide rotary tip to the stock cast manifold. Open it up a bit and at least match the head port. I'd go a bit larger and make a "step" as leaves the head. Think there were "bumps" in the factory casting there too can't remember it's been too long ago 99? when ran a stock grinded out manifold. I do remember was more material than thought to open it up. It did make a difference.
