    Fuel vapor pump

I’m asking for a friend. He got a code saying that his fuel vapor pump is failing.
    His car is a 2004 e46 m3.
    Is this a common problem?
Is it smg only? (He swapped it from smg to manual).
Also what is it and what does it do?

    What is the actual code?
It may be as simple as a failing gas cap/seal.

Pump should be located behind the passenger side rear wheel,
between the wheel well and rear bumper cover.

This helps explain an EVAP System and components:https://www.autoserviceprofessional....f-dmtl-systems

Ok, as mentioned clean and lubricate gas cap seal,
    or if dry/brittle - replace.

    Check pump wiring/connection for corrosion/breaks.

After he does all of that should he delete the code or would it go away by itself?

He has a power steering leak. Could it be that?

So a fresh scan can be performed,
to verify if fix was successful.
