    fuel leak - need help ('84 318i)

I recently acquired an '84 BMW 318i (via auction). Joined the Forum as I have an issue and need some expertise.

Car was fine for first few days and drives. Then I filled fuel tank (made sure not to overfill) and drove home. A few hours later I had gas leak on driveway right in front a rear passenger side tire. Brought car to local European shop with does BMW, Porsche, etc... Next day they said I had rusted tank and a leak in the tank. Tank was sent out to be repaired and restored (they suposedly fixed the leak area, claened inside/outside, and pained exterior with a sealing paint). Repair shop also replaced all fuel lines. fuel pump, and filter. So $900 later, I picked up car on Saturday, drove home 6 miles, and parked car in driveway. An hour later I found a larger leak spot in exact same area (in front of rear passenger tire). Taking car back to shop tonight. After seeing photo, shop said maybe 1) evap system hooked up wrong or 2) fuel tank getting pressurized somehow after driving. To me as a novice, it seems to be triggered with a full tank.

Any ideas, suggestions, etc... would be appreciated. I'm wondering if restoring the tank was actually needed now or misdiognosed?

    thanks, Dave in NJ

    2) doesn't sound like a valid argument to me since the whole point of fixing the tank is that it can withstand whatever normal pressure is thrown at it. And since the fuel lines and everything were replaced I don't see why there would be an abnormal pressure.
    1) I guess you'll have to see if the car stops leaking when they fix the issue, if that is indeed the issue.

Either way and even if it's something else that wasn't hookep up properly, they will probably fix it when you bring it back. If it's a reputable shop I don't think you have to worry too much about it.
