    Spark plug/ignition leads

Hey guys, I’ve found the spark leads on my E24 are the original set from 1983. Problem is, the caps have become brittle where they connect to the distributor. I was taking them off to check my no start problem and two broke quite easily.

My question is, can I just replace them with Bosch/NGK caps with resistors? Or do you recommend replacing the entire wiring kit?

it comes down to cost. I used to just replace the entire lot in my 71 Hemi, but the E24 is proving to be less cost effective.

    Here’s the NGK caps

    Heres an entire kit

    Perform an old school test.

    Park vehicle in garage.
Using a fine mist spray bottle, containing water only,
spray a fine mist onto the sparkplug wires/cap.
Start engine, turn off all lighting.
Now observe locations of spark discharges in complete darkness.
Replace as a kit if random multiple discharges are observed.

Take a look at Kingsborne wire kits, all oem, or you can just buy replacement parts. Bert P turned me on to them, 5 BMW's, 5 sets of Kingsborne wires.

Will do as soon as I find a new set. I found one cap broken off from the lead coming from the coil to the distributor.

That’s lot cheaper than the ones I’ve seen here in Australia. The cheapest I’ve found was $180 used.
