from what i remember of my m20 i couldn't run over like 10-11psi without pinging on 91.
had to switch to meth injection since e85 was not common at the time.
i tried to lower timing and it was just slow and didn't really help the pinging issue.
also it would overboost with anything under 17*

sounds like you're trying to say m20 vs m20 18psi could be 500hp or 120hp you never know.
is there not a general rule with where 93/91 starts to ping on an m50?
on the street yeah 13psi didn't ping from what i remember but when you put it on the freeway it will start to ping under high load.
so there is also that.
