    Roof top tent for e90/e91

I am getting an e90 or e91 soon, and i recently saw a youtube video about roof top tents, and i think they look super cool. I've seen an e39 touring with one on google images, but i cant find any other non-suv bmw's with one. Does anyone know if anyone's put one of these on their e90/e91?

Well as the max weight limit on the roof rails of an E91 is only 165 pounds i dont think it would be a good idea as the tent and one normal adult would weigh more than that. Just the tent unit with its solid base for a Jeep is about 60 pounds. It would probably be similar in weight which would only allow for a person to be about 105 pounds.

165lb is a dynamic load rating, driving down the road. You should be fine with a static load rating of 400-500lbs giving 2 people plus the tent.

    DO IT!

Well here is someone in Europe i beleive with an e39 that has a roof top tent. They say yhe racks should hold 1000 pounds static load. Personally i know that not to be true. My e39 wagon has "bent" roof rails and ther was only 230 pounds on it as a "static" load. We did not even get to driving away before they bent. I cant show pictures becuase i replaced both rails when i had a exterior restoration done on the car a year ago.

From personal knowlege i would not even atempt to put a tent base on the roof rails.

BMW give a MAX weight limit of 165 period, and they do that for a reason.

But its your car do what you want.
