So I bought this dime.. well I thought ok so I got this E36 a few months ago it has around 226k on her. I bought this car for a daily driver but it has been well maintained an service was took care of. It did have a surge at first it would flicker but one day otw to work it shot into limp mode no reason it was stuck in 3rd but I got to work and went in you know blah blah I come back out an try to crank it an it shoots up to 6000rpm but come to find out it was just dry rotted hoses which have been replaced but that is what threw the car in limp mode my shop fixed it an it was fine like new but the limp mode is still here.. my shop tells me new tranny but it has been took care of it is missing a sensor maybe also it’s straight piped so no catty.. I have no idea what it was I was thinking about replacing the tranny but could it be a bad ECU TCM it does have high miles but runs sooo good. My shop clears the code it’ll run fine for around 30mins but comes back..
This is not a sales pitch for BG Products, and I know most people don't believe it but I've seen this on 3 separate occasions and fixed it each time. One was my own E46. Find a reputable shop that uses BG products and have the trans serviced. Make sure to ask them to drive it with the cleaner in it before the service. It's a pain to get the cleaner in without a dipstick but it's a must. Nasty dirty fluid will mess with the solenoids in the valve body and cause this issue. Trust me it's worth it. bgfindashop.com

My shop says my tranny is covered in mud but idk were that cake from as far as the flush maybe it would work if I could find Somone around me to do it idk I hate to sell it a lot of work out into it

If you can't fix it yourself then you should make other plans, like a manual swap. Because they are going to bleed you dry.
If the trans is covered in mud, then I would guess that it is leaking fluid and dirt is sticking to it. If it's the torque converter seal or input shaft seal then the trans has to come out to replace them. If it's one of the pan seals then they can be done more easily.

Thanks man you don’t know anywhere I could get a decent auto tranny for a good price? Was gonna be my drifter but I feel like an auto will suite my daily use a little better as far as the 5 speed swap I also have a 97 328i but I’m just lost not to sure we’re to go from here

And would those seals cause it to be in limp mode because it was just running fine when I got it but I haven’t done much time with the tranny an budget is super tight
You should read what the code is. Get a laptop and put INPA on it, order the cable from ebay. Get INPA from the Z3 subforum.
Your cat delete means the asshole before you beat on the car, so good luck!
