I haven't been posting much around here lately, as my car obsession has moved on to a Lotus. I had thought I would sell my M Roadster after getting the Lotus, but I never got around to it and instead just kept driving it and driving it until it got to 201,114 miles. On the 4th of July a young lady ran a stop sign and the M Roadster has been totaled. No one was seriously injured, thankfully.

I had some good times in that car. It wasn't the best at any one thing but was well rounded at so many things. As a daily driver, it was pretty comfortable on the stock springs + Konis, and the smooth torque delivery is enjoyable even on mundane driving. At the drag strip it was fast enough to be fun; I had my first pass driving any car at a drag strip in it. In fact, this car got me introduced into the world of motorsport. I started autocrossing it almost as soon as I got it, and while it's not the fastest car out there it is a lot of fun to drive at the limit. I've also learned how to wrench a bit because having this vehicle as a third car gave me the time to work through problems at my own pace and do jobs like cutting out the factory struts for the Koni inserts, Vanos seals, cooling system, and of course fixing the glove box sag.
There are some good parts left on this car, so I expect some of you vultures to start circling! I will try to figure out what's happening with the salvage location of the car, or if someone wants to buy it from me that might work. Rear lower control arms are in good shape. Style 40 wheels are always in style, though these could stand to be refinished. The seats are in pretty good shape with the exception of one tear down a seam on the driver side. There are lots of interior pieces that are good condition on this car. The s52 engine starts and was running fine at an autocross last month.

So sorry to see that. I wonder how many have perished thus. Hopefully her insurance makes it good to you.
"On the 4th of July a young lady ran a stop sign and the M Roadster has been totaled."
I'm sure it was a very important text she was composing.
sorry to see sorry to see....
our cars are also so hard to see!.....I know I am like never seen..........
low, and silver doesnt help at all
This is so true. I commute in and out of London by motorcycle every day, so I get a good view of what people are up to, and they aren't devoting much of their time to driving. You can see them drifiting about the lanes, and when I pass they have a phone in one hand. Apart from the chap the other day that was using a laptop balanced on the centre console. "Too busy to drive" is what I call it.
I drive on Westchester County's(NY) fastest hwy....684....75-85 mph all day...its crazy what I see every morn.....truly
I drive to North Scottsdale every day (50 mile loop). On the freeways I travel, 85 is the new 65. Distracted/aggressive drivers are the norm. I guess I shouldn't complain; I don't drive in LA, New York or London.
I don't know why everyone is in such a hurry to get to work

"You can't sign away negligence."
I can always tell around here when in traffic a car is going just at or under the speed limit with many car lengths in front of them. It's always someone on their phone. I usually pull up so my nose is flush with their skull and give them a good honk.
The train horn going in the Coupe is going to be pointed towards the passenger side of my car.

But I can relate to the story as well. The other day, a CUV almost hit me trying to across three lanes so that he/she doesn't miss the ramp to the San Diego Sea World in the Mission Bay area (this happens there quite often unfortunately). I honked at the driver, the driver honked back at me (as if it was my wrong-doing type of honking). I don't understand what the rush was. All he/she had to do was exit on next ramp then turn around or take local back to the intended destination. - I'm just glad that I'd installed a dash cam, sigh.

I always fock w/ other drivers if I c them on cell...for like 2 mins then Im gone
but I do it in a way they kinda dont even know
I know I know its kinda childish..but I get soo pissed at them..I just want to get them frustrated a lil
Another memory to share... During the road rally when I blew the Lotus motor, it was the trusty S52 that finished out the rally, including some fun twisting mountain roads and a standing mile event. Again, not the fastest, but doing 130mph was still fun:
I don't know if the girl was texting or just a very inexperienced driver; she looked 16 or 17. I've gotten to where I don't get as mad about the other drivers, but I guess my pet peeve is the people passing in one lane so that they can cut in front up ahead. I know I won't be able to teach them anything so no point in wasting my energy on negativity, but some days it is still quite irritating.
Her insurance has come back with an offer; I may try to negotiate a bit but looks like I will end up whole on this deal. I have had a couple of PMs asking about taking the car as salvage; the buy back price seems a bit high to me so that is what I may negotiate. I like the thought of some of these parts living on in other cars.

car seemed strong on that pull......
Is the rear deck and bumper cover in good shape?

Definitely negotiate! They often lowball. My buddy's first offer was $1900, settled on $4800 ... and they also paid a huge rental car fee for their delay.
I found it on copart:

current bid is $625

If the seats are in good shape, that would cover the cost of the rest of the car, not to mention how expensive rear suspension and halfshafts are for these cars.

I had some day dreams about buying it back myself... I just don't have the time to mess with parting out a car.

Bids up to $1900 now
Did the airbags not deploy? Looks like a pretty good hit, surprised the airbags didnt go off. BTW- Glad you're alright!!!
Sheesh I woulda snagged it for that price!!
Gotta get me one of them auction licenses
They usually jump quite a bit during live bidding. It's a shame you can't check what the final price was.
