A few weeks ago my radio and monitor went out. The fuse was fine. Disconnecting the battery for a rest seemed to have fixed it. last night sitting with car running I heard a pop and again radio and monitor went out. This time it is a blow fuse. Attempting to put in a new one instantly pops. I do still have time/date etc. on the gauge cluster, which I know comes from the MK3, so it's not that, but I thought the MK3 also ran the monitor? The monitor should still be on but no radio.
I haven't done any wiring or changed anything. Is it the radio itself? or maybe the amp? Having no monitor, that isn't even powered by the radio, is throwing me off of where to start looking.
I disconnected everything in the trunk. radio, amp, mk3, even the cd player. still blows a fuse so i know it's none of those components. Was just sitting in a parking lot with engine running when it blew. so strange....
Ebox fuse or trunk fuse?

Did you check your charge ports/cig lighters?
trunk.
check them for? power?
I think the rear port is on that same fuse, if not both. Make sure nothing is in them that should not be.

I'm not familiar with it but checking the WDS, it shows a Unloader relay, term R on that fuse as well on your car. Also show just the rear power socket on that fuse.

The console one is fine. the rear had a usb plug with no power so i took that out just in case and tried a known working one. dead. left it empty and tried another fuse and it blew. i'm out of fuses
i had to search what a relay unloader was lol. i don't think i'm having that kind of issue. everything else seems to work.
The relay and socket are the only things I see other than what you had already unplugged. The circuit wire is red/green to all the components.
even if i unplug the unloader relay it blows a fuse. I'm at a loss...
Just going to have to dig deeper. The only thing still 'connected' is the rear power socket. If it were mine, I would pull that trim off and unplug it at the connection. Maybe see if there is any corrosion on the back side of the socket. Other than that, your probably looking at a wiring issue. Any other odd issues going on? Any chance you have had water under the passenger seat?
I did reconnect all the other components. I will undo the rear socket.
Wasn't noticing anything else odd but Interesting you mention under the passenger seat. I have not had water, but did just two weeks ago replace the cat preheater control module. that took care of a code I've been battling a long time. Thinking maybe I disturbed something else under there?
That's just where many of the comb splices and grounds are located. One of the early signs of water corrosion in that cubby hole is the radio not working.
Saw your post on the other thread but wanted to reply here. I was checking the WDS, looking backwards from different radio component and found the antenna unit is supplied by Fuse 46. They call it a Diversity here.

Sorry I missed these before. There are just so many variables when it comes to the radio/DSP/NAV in these cars. I assume you also pulled all of the radio components out of the dash to unplug along with the trunk.
I saw the diversity antenna listed in the TIS but that's on fuse 46 5A but tried disconnected it anyway and fuse still pops. Many items are on 46. #69 is a 30A fuse I'm chasing down.
I had a BT module and voice control but that's been pulled out a couple of years when it stopped working.
I haven't undone anything in the dash. The screen went out but the buttons on each side of the screen for radio stations and such still light up at night so wasn't suspect.
However, now going by the just the list of fuses and equipment, #69 does power the radio, cd changer, navigation and.... the onboard monitor. So it looks like i'll be pulling the widescreen out to disconnect it and see what happens.
Sorry, I was thinking you were after a F46 issue but yes, both are tied into the dash components.
It's ok Mayor. I appreciate your input and "thinking out loud" with me. So I pulled out the wide screen and still blowing fuses. I'm out of fuses again. Everything listed as being tied to #69 has been disconnected and fuse tried. So we have a short somewhere. Wondering about the wires and buttons in the steering wheel for changing stations and volume.
Best wiring guy I know on this car is Paul (psjr). If this were mine, I would send him a note. He would probably know a splice point for that circuit. Time to get a multi meter involved.
Mayor, wanted to get back to you on this. I was under the console to pull out my air bag module and thought, even though there's nothing in the rear power port, i'm going to disconnect the thing. And would you believe that was the problem all along? One of your first guesses. It doesn't look bad and it was empty so it wasn't suspect. I'm thinking there's a pinched wire somewhere down the line. I"m just leaving it unplugged and call it a day.
As always thanks for your help.
Glad to hear it. I bet your radio never sounded so good afterwards.
It sounds amazing! especially after I connected the diversity antenna I had left undone lol.
but.... now my interior dash and night illumination lights are staying on in the cabin even after the car goes to sleep. Pulled the battery and will check again later.
I had pulled the air bag module out so thought that was some kind of safety warning but plugged it back in and lights stayed on. I can't win...
