I would love to find my dads old 1982 323i Hartge

I absolutely loved this car when I was a kid, I remember everything about it, all the Hartge parts, it was slammed... It even had this killer blue recaro print inserts on the the front and rear seats, even on the door panel inserts were the recaro material. my dad sold it to my uncle in the late eighties. My uncle thought the interior was too flashy, exhaust too loud, he just couldn't handle it and he immediately bottomed out and damaged the front air dam. He lifted the cars suspension and put it up for sale, he wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible and I couldn't afford the car at the time and it sold.

I have searched for it on and off, for almost 25 years with no luck. I recently found some pictures when my uncle was selling the car in 1990? it brought back so many great memories. I figured I would share the pics and start looking again. man I loved that car

excellent pictures; did not have the hartge deco kit down the side? What engine and other hartge parts were on the car? There was a white one in San Diego,
but not sure if they are the same cars.

Thanks, correct the car did not have any decals when my dad owned it. It may have at some point, he was very particular about his cars. It was a grey market car, 6cyl, not sure of any internal parts. It obviously had the hartge badges also had the triple gauge cluster, exhaust, valve cover, dead pedal, single wiper, roof antenna and that amazing blue all-over logo recaro interior.

I was teenager when he had this car and it left a mark on me. I have been infatuated with Hartge and the e21 323i ever since. I wish I had the VIN, sadly my father passed away many years ago... I will contact my uncle and see if he has any old paperwork laying around, but its doubtful.

My response didn't show up, weird.... I'll try to remember..

Thanks, yeah his car didn't have decals, he was very particular about his cars. It had the Hartge badges, exhaust, valve cover, mono wiper, dead pedal, gauge pod, roof antenna, suspension and air dam. plus that awesome recaro interior that went into the door panels. I wish I had the VIN, sadly my dad passed away in 2001, I will contact my uncle and see if he has any old paperwork around, but I doubt it.

I was about 17 years old back then, I learned how to drive a manual in that car. I been infatuated with Hartge and 323's since the eighties, god I loved that car.

    Hartge are great:)

Yes, they are great cars. My h26 is the red one, the tribute h3 is gone, engine blew up and I parted it out.
Going to build another one soon.

yeah my dads car rocked the mesh wheels, pretty sure 15", not Hartge.. Between the taillights was the more common black panel too. The interior was really special though. I have never seen another one like it, until I found a picture of these seats. The interior looked just like these seats, but in blue. Front+rear seats and door panels all had the same inserts, it was incredible.

There is a guy in san diego that has a white 323i h3. It might be your dad's. The only white one with all the parts; I know he replaced the wheels, front spoiler; because it was broken, and the seats. You might google hartge h3 images, and see what you think. He is in San Diego; so who knows............
I am sure you have already googled h3.
Do you know what side skirts were on the car?

I came across this post on the 2002faq forum and thought you would be interested:

He has the blue recaro fabric that you mentioned, but just enough for front seats.

Good luck with the search, that must have been quite a rare car even back in 1990.

Is this a hartge car? Also, the early cars I believe did not come with hartge wheels; used bbs mesh wheels. The e30 came with hartge wheels in 85 on like my car.

Your dad's car sure looks like Matt's car. How many white h3s are there in southern CA?

I saw that back in 2008, I thought it sold?

I have no idea on the skirts, I can't imagine it wasn't on the car when my dads friend imported it originally back in the mid 80's, Im not sure though

If I remember correctly, the guy who owns this white H3 shown above (Matt) has owned it for a long time, probably since the 90's. It is one of the kind car, it could be your dad's old car as these were always rare. Matt is a member here, use a search function and you will find him and will be able to contact him.

Bet there is an 80% chance that you are looking for Matt's car and he did not sell it.

It sure makes me hopeful that my dads old car is possibly still on the road and it didn't end up in a junkyard somewhere. I need to checkout that issue of Bimmer magazine

I sent Matt a message, I'm just waiting for a reply. In the meantime, I asked my uncle if he remembers anything about the person he sold it to in the early 90's, but all he can remember is that he sold it to "a black guy" ugh honestly, I was hoping for more information from him, but he said he is still searching for more paperwork/pictures . I've also been trying to locate my dad's old friend who imported the BMW it back in the early 80's. He knew ALL the history on that '82 323i Hartge. my fingers are crossed

Do you have the vin number? If yes, go to DMV and see if they can help you with a basic search....well maybe they will not do that
    in CA.

There you go; you will find out exactly where the car is; if it is in the system and not in the junkyard.
    Hope not!!

Yeah I appreciate it guys, but as I stated before I don't have the VIN. My uncle is still looking for anything related to this car, but sadly its been gone for over 25 years and he doesn't think he has any other info on it.

Whoa, I guess that post with a link to the DMV was deleted? That's the second post that I know of that disappeared in this thread.
