Hello all,
An odd problem has started happening in our 2006 530XI. The AC has been randomly switching from HI to LOW, and now it won't blow at HI speed when the AC is on. You can see the LED's change as you turn up the speed dial, but at about half speed, the fan won't go any faster. The lights keep changing up through the whole range, though.
When we turn on the heater, then we get the full speed range on the fan, so I know it isn't the fan itself, or a resistor/circuit of a speed controller. It's like ONLY the AC funtion doesn't get to use full fan speed.
I will add that we recently took the 530 in for service because of a passenger airbag seat mat error. The sensor mats have been known to fail, so BMW is replacing them free of charge for a full 15 years. However, we were told that a disconnected battery sensor cable is to blame for the error light. Replacement of that cable was quoted at $1500. That is crazy money, so I am ordering the cable for $275 from FCPEuro, and replacing myself. I suppose it's possible that could be causing the AC to freak out, but consider that highly unlikely.
Has anyone seen this problem before?
Thanks.

Pull error codes on the IHKA module. May be a temperature sensor going out giving false reading, preventing logic circuited from allowing air handler to ramping up.
