Hello everyone! I have been having a problem with the steering in my 318IS. When driving on a smooth road surface there is no vibration and the car is smooth but on a irregular paved road with some chip sealed sections at speeds over 35 mph the car develops a shake in the steering. What makes this interesting is that I have rebuilt the front control arms, replaced tie rod ends, and had all the wheels balanced yet the problem still persists(the tires are new). In order to give you guys some more info on the car it has a 180,000 miles on it I know the sway bar end links are bad and need replacing. The car was owned by a young lady who drove it into the ground and then I bought it to save it from the crusher. Though the car is straight and without rust none of the basic maintenance has been done until I bought it. So, In closing as a guy who is very OCD about his cars this is driving me nuts could you guys be able to point me in the right direction?
Struts?

I thought about struts also
I checked the rear shocks to get an idea of the condition of the fronts. Upon inspection I could easily compress the rear shocks by hand so I have all new shocks on the way and I will update once the car has been tested.
I changed the shocks and struts today and what a world of difference! The car now rides smooth and rigid with very little body roll. Turns out the old OEM Shocks now rattling in their tubes needed replacing. Thank you all for the help!
