    Inner, outer fuel pump.

Time has come to replace both my fuel pump's. Any advice as where to purchase them? Looking for the one inside the tank and I believe it just needs the pump or do I do the hole swap not sure what I should purchase. And as far as the one under the gas tank I recently came across a post here on the forum through FCP EURO for $103.99 {BOSCH} but they did not have or I did not see the inner pump on their site. You guys have been very helpful over the years and thought I would post this so you can point me in the right direction. Thank's in advance.

You are correct, an OEM Bosch in-tank pump is not listed on FCP Euro's website and as far as I have seen not available from any other similar vendors. I have been keeping an eye out for a Bosch branded in-tank pump to keep as a spare but they are just not available. FCP and others do list the OE pump (pn: 16141179423) but it is ~$400!

There are two aftermarket alternatives available at Rock Auto; AirTex and Spectra.

I have no experience with either brand and feedback from various online sources is mixed. I am sure there are folks on this forum that can share their experiences.

Just to complete the thread, here is the link to the main pressure pump:

I purchased the Bosch from FCP, it works great but the diameter was a little smaller so I had to wrap some rubber around it so it would fit snug in the bracket. I think the early and late model pumps were different but I'm not sure. I have both pumps for sale if it fits your car, mine is early. My in tank is original but it works. I looked at replacing it and found rock auto sells just the pump for a good price but not sure if anyone has tried this method.

Actually it looks like FCP has the pump listed as fitting both late and early. I'll PM you.

    Cool

I'm using the AIRTEX E8196H with lifetime warranty from amazon, if it gives up the goat, Amazon(when they ship and sell) pays shipping to them and replaces with new and ships back at there cost, installed 9/ 2014.

    Randy,

Thanks for the follow-up. This is good info and makes me feel better about sourcing an Airtex pump as a spare.

When my tank gets below 1/3 the main pump gets noisier so I suspect the in-tank pump might be weak or maybe just a clogged pick-up. On my last car I dropped the tanks and went through everything but I haven't tackled this one yet. I have more experience with Volvos which also use a dual pump system. Check out IPD. They have replacement tank pumps that might work on the bimmer.

Randy, is is a direct replacement or something needs to be modified to make it work? Based on the photos it looks like an aftermarket direct replacement which is great.

    Thank you,
    Max
