My son has a 03' 3 series sedan. Both keys have stopped working (keyless entry) and after replacing the battery in one of them it still doesn't work. The central locking still works from the button inside the car. Is it possible to fit an aftermarket keyless entry kit to the existing central locking and just retain the keys to start the car?

The GM5 module controls the keyless lock/unlock system. It’s located above the fus panel in the glove box. Go to www.bmwgm5.com to learn more.
The system has an antenna in the rear windshield. The signals from the keys are amplified by an amp located in the driver’s side “C” pillar. The “C” pillar is the part of the roof that flows into the body behind the rear seat. That could have stopped working.
So, before you start throwing parts at the problem do some research.
Have you tried re-initializing your keys after swapping out said battery?
