It sounded like a broken coil spring...it was not. Something else is making the crunch and creak.. and only apparent over uneven road. Jumping my weight up and down on the rear bumper does not make the crunch and creak sound. Rocking the car side to side doesn't reproduce it either. I'm trying to track down the specific rear suspension item without replacing parts not needed...such as the pretty looking new rear coil spring it now has...only to find that this was not the culprit! I now have a used rear coil spring for sale!

Get it up on a lift, perform a thorough inspection.
+1 to Miky. Could be any number of things. You wouldn't believe the old state of my trailing arm bushings before I changed them. I'm surprised they weren't making more noise.
