E-Torx Socket Size Rear Shock Lower Mount

All, I need to purchase a E-Torx Socket for the lower rear shock mount on my F30. The bolt is this part number 07119907372, does someone know what size it is?

This is quite something if related to the other thread...

Having messed with those not too long ago, I am partially certain they are E16 or possibly E18

E-Torx Socket Size Rear Shock Lower Mount

Abel, is this something you could check your box for? I found some sets that go up to E-16 and I am pretty sure it is larger than that as I just had the wheels off on Sunday. I will need to order through Amazon or Grainger to get a larger one

    Oddly, mine are regular hex...

    IMG_20180702_202854.jpg

And I changed the rear shocks, quite carefully too.

3 torx on top mount, and 1 bolt on bottom with a nut.

I didn't take any other bolts out, didn't even take the wheel off to change rear shocks. Plastic cover off, and then undo from top and bottom, and compress to fit in.
I must remember having to use the E torx on top mount.

So what is going on with your car?

Wow, could have sworn the bottom one was a E-Torx. I will look in the morning and shoot a photo.

Was planning on changing the rear shocks out. This car was my daily work driver and I carried lots of demos in the trunk. They are a bit blown out, not horrible, but the car doesn’t drive “BMW” like at the moment.

As far as the noise, I will grab a torque wrench and check the lug torque later or in the morning. It could very well be the wheel bearing. Driving 100 miles or so tomorrow to the in-laws so I will test it again. It is noticeable when backing off the throttle at 65-80, when coasting only. I will do some additional turns tomorrow to see if I can sense that it was bad. Too bad it isn’t just a RWD as I would take the caliper and brake off and test it with everything off.

Well realoem says its supposed to be a torx bolt. Changing the rear shocks was the first time I know of that they have been taken off.
    Original shocks were original.
    Assembly error?
Maybe previous owner had some work on the arms, and tech put hex bolts in? They were the same on both sides.

Well, we will just say that someone perhaps boogered them up when they removed them. Ha, Perhaps a cutting torch

I’ll see what I can find out in the morning, I’m surprised that no other F30 owners can comment on this.

Cutting torch not needed on my car at least, absolutely 0 rust and every bolt comes off very easily and friendly.
It's a quiet place here though.

Awesome, I am actually from Spring Texas. I appreciate you chiming in. The 2005 330i ZHP I sold was sold to a guy in Houston on the South Side. I drove it to Dallas as I had a wedding to go to. Thanks for chiming in.

Short of me taking the wheel off, what does the other side of this bolt look like? Is it standard or the E-Torx? If it is standard then I am fine as I have the smaller E-Torx for the upper mount.

My picture above was "the other side", from the front looking back. It was a more difficult picture to take, but possible. Note the handbrake cable. Standard hex on my car.

If E18: worst case scenario, you can use a tight fitting standard hex head on the torx e socket, if there isn't any corrosion to make it very difficult. They're not on super tight, low risk of rounding it.

Sounds good, plan on tackling it tomorrow morning. I think the sound is a wheel bearing on the right front. Unfortunately I can’t get my hands on a new one prior to Friday so I am going to do a close inspection with the wheel off and make a judgement call on whether the car will make the trip.
