All, I have a 2014 328D X-Drive with 112k miles on it. Just put some new Continental tires on today as the old tires I had were cupped quite a bit. After putting the tires on we went for a spin on the highway and everything was nice and quiet until I decided to let off the throttle. I initially thought I had a wheel bearing going out, but I think I ruled that out by putting it in Eco Mode and free wheeling on throttle lift. Noise was not present and tires are perfectly quiet.
It almost sounds as if I have a faint Jake Brake noise on the diesel. Is the Eco Mode test legit? Steering changes doesn’t seem to reflect, or have any feel of a bad wheel bearing or one going out.
I did put a new air filter into the car the other day, I reinspected the clamps and everything looks normal there, I guess i can look again but everything seems fine with hoses and other lines.

Hope it's not transfer case output flange.

I’m still on the fence that it could be a wheel bearing. As this is an X-drive is there a simple way to test that wheel? It is the front right

That is if it is a wheel bearing

Ah, you can hear it on the front?
I would stop immediately and inspect, make sure bolts are all on and tight!!

You know, that thought did cross my mind

Also inspect behind the wheel, to make sure you're not dragging something.

All, I have pretty much determined that I have a bad front right wheel bearing on the X-Drive, has anyone done one as of yet? If so, what all is involved and will I need any specialty tools to get it out? It appears that besides the new wheel bearing, I will need a few attachment bolts that are one use (stretch issues), and a new bolt with a spring assembly in it, I presume this goes into the axle, but I have not looked at anything in detail at the moment as I have not taken it apart.

Looks fairly simple. Remove caliper and rotor, disconnect axle, then the bearing hub comes off from the main hub. Doesn't look like any pullers are involved.
You should put a new axle bolt and new bearing bolts.
