    100k mile service

Hi there, I recently bought a 2011 X5 with the M sport package. It has the 3 liter N55 gas engine. It is about to cross 100k miles, so I’m wondering if there are any recommended service items I should consider. Since I just bought it, I’m hoping to give it a good once over. It’s been religiously maintained at the dealership since new, with no issues other than the basic recalls. I called a local indy to inquire about a 100k mile service, and he said just to follow the intervals recommended in the computer, except to change the oil every 7500 miles instead of 15000 miles.

Ive read that the water pump tends to fail early due to bad electronics, so I was prepared for that to be potentially part of the 100k service. Well, I just got a warning yesterday that the car was running abnormally hot (I live in Michigan). Upon returning, there was a loud buzzing sound coming from the engine when I got out of the car. I believe my water pump might have just gone out! So now I’m definitely bringing it in! Now what else should I have done while it’s in?? Spark plugs? Fuel filter? What else?

    Thank you for your help!

Spark Plugs are 100k service items, as are O2 sensors. Coil extenders, and valve cover gaskets as well.
Transmission fluid as well as power steering fluid and reservoir, plus differential fluid. Coolant should be changed unless there has been a recorded change in the last year. BMW coolant only.

BMW turbo engine spark plugs get change sooner than there non turbo engines. Service the trans. I would not change the oxygen sensors they are monitored by the check engine light system. You would replace any gasket that was leaking if not don't replace.

Thanks for the input. I just got a phone quote from a local indy for $1200 for the water pump and t-stat, plus $350 for spark plugs, plus $1100 for trans fluid flush, plus ~$300 for differential fluid. Trans service includes new filter, plus re-sealing the valve body... does this sound about right?

Yes that sounds about right. Must be a good indy as they are resealing the valve body- some just change filter and fluid and call it serviced. Most if not all could be DIY and figure a $1000.00 in parts and supplies. Tackle what you can and have your indy do the rest.
