Random' engine shut off....what could it be?

    Hi!

Wondering if this rings any bells with the members of this great forum!

    I've got a 2001 E38 704i M-Sport (Japanese re-import) with low milage.

The last couple of weeks I have a seemingly random engine shut off at low speed (app. 20/30 km/hr). If I put the gear in N or P, the car starts straight away without any issues whatsoever. No stuttering, no nothing. Runs OK. No error/faulty codes in the dash or readout at the mechanics.

Things I think this could be:
    - ground wire lose somewhere
    - crankshaft sensor (but would that not show a fault code?)
    - relay faulty? (again, assume that would also give a code)

    Any other thoughts?

Thanks all so much for any input!

    Philip

That's usually the CAMshaft sensor - more details here:
