    E24 Wheel Options '87635CSi

    Good morning Sixers,

I have left the TRX tires and 14" wheels behind and am looking for new wheels Can anyone point me to a list of BMW wheel options that will fit with or without spacers? For example; a local salvage yard has a '02 540i, '98/'97 528i's and a, '99 740IL would these work or require spacers. Does anybody have a favorite wheel that looks great on this car? Thank you in advance for opinions and advice.

Most of the e39 wheels you called out will work with a hubcentric ring (72.56 ID, 74.1 OD). Most of them have an offset of 20, which works without spacers.(barely). I had e39 17" style 5s (BBS RC090) on my car for a long time, they look great . I just finished restoring a set of original 16" BBS RS wheels, and I'm super happy with those (see pic below).

I always keep an eye out for E32/E34/E38 style 5 16" wheels, the one-piece cast version. They are also called style 5 but they aren't the pretty two-piece style 5 variant as posted above. I prefer the smaller wheels (primarily since I'm cheap). I can usually pick up a set for about $250ish including the center covers...a single RC090 could cost that much. Allows a little more sidewall, a bit lighter, more resistant to dings, rash & bends. They also look nearly original. Once I got lucky, pulled a set from a recently totalled E34 and it had nearly-perfect tire sizes. E32 tires are too tall. The only think I don't like about style 5 is cleaning them.

    Wait...I'm wrong about that...check out this listing (17x8 ET20 style 5 RC090):

That's Aardvark Racing, they have an excellent reputation. Local would be slightly cheaper, but that looked like a really good price to me. E39 540i wheels are pretty sexy, no doubt about it.

Check this link out. A lot of options. http://www.wokke.de/GALLERY.htm

Your car has a 72.56mm center bore. Most available wheels will be 74.1mm. Hub centric rings will solve that problem. I recommend the aluminum ones in lieu of the plastic rings

Probably the most popular would be style 5's. I've seen style 32 and 42 which look good too.

Some less common options that I personally like are Style 37's and Style 65's. Although, the 65's are off of the M5 and only come in 18".

This is an excellent wheel site, showing most BMW variants.

    http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/

There are many different variants for Style 5 as shown.

I currently have the E39 16" on my E24, but will be installing the E39 17" (BBS RC090) after I finish restoring them.

I have my 84 633CSi for 14 yrs. and have had many different tire and rims set up. I presently have a set of 3 piece 16" BBS RS style 5's. I had them restored by Paul Ehrlich in NC. I love these20150502_151542_004.jpg_JR24516.jpg wheels but they are getting to difficult to clean and polish properly so I am considering selling them. I attached a photo of them on my 88 535is for reference. I had a set of style 66's from and 2001 E 39 540i sport. They required hubcentrics and I chose to have spacers installed so I could use a wider tire which was appropriate for this bigger and wider rim and clear the front strut easily. They looked great on the car. They gave the car a very modern appearance as apposed to the BBS's which gave the car a more classic look. I have had a set of the 16" E'38 style 5 basket weaves for the money they look very good and period correct.

When I sell the BBS RS wheels I will look to get another set of the style 66's. I have a set of 18" M Pars and while I like that look also I do not want to strain the suspension with the extra size and weight.

    Good Luck with your decision.

    Hey Zieg,

Do you still have those RS wheels on your E28? Which model RS are they, and did you have any trouble with rear fender clearance? Still interested in selling them? I'm using E28 M5 wheels currently, but I'm kind of an RS whore.

    I also PM'd you.

    Cheers,
    Larry
