E36 M3 power steering pump replacement - Part numbers 32412227197 / 32412227196
Has anyone found a reliable supplier of new or re-manufactured power steering pump for our cars ?
Thanks.

Its not leaking oil (Rebuild kit at $40).
It's failing. It stops assisting the steering. Usually starts with a vibration that gets worst. The inner cam surface goes bad and the vanes chew it up. Especially at high RPMs seen on the track.
Re-manufactured pumps are NLA everywhere.
I suppose someone will eventually fill this hole in the market.
The question is :
Has someone emerged yet ?
Thanks.
I found this list in Europe -

Thanks for the link but they are all NLA like PartsGeek.
I was hoping to find one in North America...
Most places that advertise the pump (new or re-manufactured) let you order and send you an email the next day that it is NLA.
Looks like our option is to buy used from www.car-parts.com and rebuild.

I have had good luck with this one from eBay.

I have run it on my racecar all season and it has been fine. My old one was leaking. I looked at a rebuild kit, but for 100 bucks, it seemed my time was better spent elsewhere and took a chance on this one.

I did see the Cardone on a couple of sites.
It's great news that they can rebuild them so they can sustain the high RPM.
I just bought another used pump from Ebay and will send it to them for re-polishing the inner cam surface. In the mean time I bought new from Europe (Shaftec). I will update once I try it out. I'm hoping this thread becomes the reference for procuring this part as the situation evolves and members are successful with vendors / manufacturer.
The cost to ship from England to Canada with custom fees is $60 which is much less than anticipated. I will let the forum know the in's and out once I get the new pump.
Well the used pump failed in a matter of 30 seconds at the track.
Did not even have time to reverse the car from the trailer.
So changed the pump back to the original that was noisy.
Middle of the night in a parking lot when it rains is not ideal. Stupid things I do to play race car driver !
Interestingly the power steering , beside being noisy, only turned to one side. Before I parked it for the weekend I decided it was going to turn both was and I insisted pretty hard repeatedly until the resistance went away. Sometimes being stubborn helps. Raced the whole weekend without an issue.
I crashed the car at Mosport in August of 2018 before I had a chance to try the Shaftec...
100 miles an hour at the apex going through oil is expensive.
I'm in the process of rebuilding and do not know if I will be back on track in 2019.
If I am it will be with a new (Rebuilt) steering rack from ZF and the Shaftec pump.
Also considering the Chase Bays kit with lines, cooler and reservoir. It mounts like the original system to reduces the length of the lines.
I will update as soon as I'm rebuilt. Thanks for the help.
Interesting. I'm about to rebuild mine (Rebuild kit from FCPEuro).
Also installing shims to reduce pressure/increase effort.
Rockauto lists several rebuilds available.
Maybe an undersize pulley would help with track-use longevity?
ChaseBays, didn't know about them, they have some interesting stuff. Thanks!
I'm bumping this....can't believe these are no longer available....is ebay the only option?

Re-building the race car took longer than expected but had my first week-end of racing last week and the Shaftec pump from Europe failed on the my 3rd time on the track.
I'm obviously doing something wrong but not sure where to go from here. Thinking of trying to find a machine shop to redo the profile to a ridiculous Ra finish, get the profiled portion of the pump 'nitrided' and or cryogenicaly treated.
Are you using OEM hoses? WIth the restrictor in that one hose? And the OEM cooler?
I'm running a new pump from RockAuto. 3 events, so far so good. (With the chasebays hoses and reservoir, which have their own issues.)
This is after my rebuilt (by me) started making horrendous noise, so I replaced with a rebuilt from rockauto, but then I lost a PS hose and ran that pump 'dry' for a minute or so, and it started making horrendous noise.
So, trying off brand "new".
On my list of to-do over the winter is to install a turner pulley and a longer belt. But this reduces the RPM of the pump something like 5%. Not sure that will really make a difference.

I'm OEM except for the filter that I removed from the bottom of the reservoir.
I do have the restrictor in the return line so the reservoir doesn't froth.
I have the Chase bay kit and may be giving it a shot. I'm not sure I like the no cooling option and I really don't like the hoses involved in the set-up with cooling. I removed the Bimmerworld kit for the same reason.
The oil is definitely aerated when it gets hot. From what I can gather on vane pump failure litterature aeration/cavitation will increase heat in the system so not sure if heat is the problem or just the consequence.
Chase bay sells a banjo bolt with chamfer holes to reduce the vacuum on the pump inlet. I may experiment with bigger holes and chamfers. Since this only happens when running in the 6,000 RPM range for minutes at a time I suppose it is cavitation. The removal of the filter may send aerated oil from the return to the supply ?
I'm seriously considering deleting the Power Steering and be done with it.
Has anyone tried to fit a new 328 pump ?

Does it align ?
Same question for the E46 ?

C-Mod cars running the S54 at 8,0000 RPM do not suffer from power steering pump failure...

Am I the only one that rebuilds these pumps?

I rebuilt one, "blew it up", then installed a rebuilt one ("only" $30 more than a rebuild kit), kinda blew it up (but not really the pumps fault), installed a new one 3 events ago, so far so good.

I know the E46 pump isn't a direct fit. I've considered finding a junked one and seeing if I could fab up a bracket, etc. One can easily modify the E46 pump to decrease the pressure/assist, which would be awesome.
Good thought.....
The 325 model of the E36 uses the same (as I recall) metallic lid OFH and uses a LUK PSP 32411137952 (superseded by 32416756582) w/rebuild kit 32411137707. This pump mounting system looks similar to the M3 ZF PSP.
LUK pump w/mounting bracket -
Additionally, also listed for the 325 I looked at in realoem was the same E36M3 ZF rebuild kit p/n 32411135880, for the 32412227197 / 32412227196 PSP, though the ZF PSP was omitted from the list.
So I’d venture to guess that the LUK pump p/n 32411137952 may fit geometrically/properly.
The ZF and LUK pumps internals are different.
