    Will this radio work?

I found this radio on amazon but I have no idea what I’m doing. I have no idea if this even fits or would work? I just want a simple cheap Bluetooth radio so I can use Spotify on my phone. I don’t want to spend like 300 dollars on a touchscreen unit either. Would this be a simple plug in and go or would I need a different wiring harness or something? Does it even fit? If it is completely the wrong thing would you recommend what I could do, thanks. It’s going to be going into a 1997 528i let me know if you need anymore info.

Don’t waste your money on crap like that. Spend $100-$150 on a quality Alpine or Pioneer head unit. Be advised that you car likely has a separate amp in the trunk. The interface between the factory head unit and the factory amp could be balanced differential signaling. If it is your head unit options will be more complicated.

Could you link what you would recommend? Is there a name for the size of the radio or type of head unit it would need?

The head unit in your car is DIN sized. That is, it’s dimensions meet the DIN dimensions standard. Thanks means any head unit that meets the DIN dimensions standards will fit. Figure out what features you need to narrow down potential models. Then go to a store that sells the brands to check out functionality and looks. Buy what trips your trigger.

It depends on the manufacturer. At the least you’ll need a wiring harness adapter that new head unit plugs into. Check www.crutchfield.com.
