While driving, my battery light lit. I knew it was an alternator issue. I pulled over, let it idle, and checked it with my meter. It was charging at 13.5v. When i got back to drive i noticed the light was off. As soon as i took off, the light came on and stayed on till i deccelerated or idled. I drove 40miles to get home randomly decellerating or idling at a red lights to maintain the battery. I just checked the battery and it shows over 18v of charge. Is this a voltage regulator issue (overcharging) ? Does this water cooled alternator have brushes i can change ? this alternator has me really confused.
You need a new alternator, and the o-ring that seals it. Do NOT drive or even start the car !!! 18 volts can kill every computer in the car ! I repeat, do NOT start the car!
