After market radio lockout

My battery went out completely after standing garaged for several weeks time.

After I jumped the car I noticed that the hazard lights came on and strangely sometimes only blinked with one light.
The radio also said it was locked. This is an after market radio and I wonder if the lock is done by the car or if it is the radio itself ?

So my question is if it is the BMW code or the after market radio code I need to find ?

Answer: if it's an aftermarket radio then it's NOT a BMW code you're looking for.

Perhaps post details of the existing radio.
