Is there a way to know if the lower & upper control arms, struts, (other suspension components?) actually needs replacing. I have a 2001 740IL with 102,000 miles with EDC struts. It seems everyone changes these suspensioncomponents at this mileage but what is the best way to know if they needchanging. The car rides and handles verywell.
At 102K miles,
I'm pretty sure your vehicle requires a complete suspension refresh!
Why don't you take it to a suspension professional you trust,
and let them determine whether a suspension overhaul is required?
Unless of course you are a DIY, then get to it!
Well if you hear nothing then don't waste your money.
If you don't have a shimmy at about 50pmh just drive it. Otherwise goto Timm's page on the dreaded shimmy and go step by step. It start's with the easy stuff and gets harder. There will be plenty of stuff to work on don't throw parts at your car you will just get discouraged. Save it for when you need it.
