Mine kinda feels like an old mans looking car. Not a firstly old mans car like the e23. That may change abit when the big bbs rs wheels go on.

OP- Do you have any pictures of your cars?
Only one I found, all e34 pics mostly "parts" which I'm working on M3 is on winter rims in this pic
But you can see how E34 with light interior, untinted with original suspension and small wheels look (thanks god you don't see how front sits )

P.S. Historical photo, you actually see 2nd e34 which I had for about a month (to pull 5sp swap parts)

Yessiree, awful, awful, awful bumpers. A bit like Heidi Klum with buck teeth.
Such a half assed effort done to satisfy US crash regulations. Makes me think they didn't much appreciate this market, or reckoned all us Amis as knuckle draggers that wouldn't notice. The E23 was marginally better in US spec..

Some guy in a something like a 420i convertible was driving a little erratic and in my lane. I gave him a little honk to let him know I was there and he went off, cutting me off then jumping over two lanes into the left turn lane. I was driving past him with my palms turned up, like "What's going on?" He yells at me to get off the road with my cheap $2,000 car. I was in my sweet 1995 Calypso Red 540i/6.

I think my main issue is that my 525i is flat out SLOW! Mixed with a 5 speed manual I can hardly keep up to the car in front of me once a light turns green. Not to mention no one these days understands a manual transmission so they tailgate and assume Im dragging ass on purpose! Sometimes I find myself hoping my old 250k m50 gives up so I can throw an s50 in ..... I say that now lol
I just put my first real drive of the season on my E34 this morning into work, and I can kind of see where the OP is coming from. Mine is an '88 530i (3.0l 6 cylinder) and is incredibly slow, but is lowered with Alpina wheels and E31 front brembo brakes, zender spoiler, IE headers, high flow cat and BB cat back system, so it sounds and looks a bit meaner than stock... but is still very very slow. Not to mention the cloth blue interior, cassette desk and old car smell, it does have that old car feel. As such, I tend to drive it much more conservatively than my B5 S4 and since I live in the city I feel like I'm in everybody's way, everyone is in such a rush to go places, they're zipping around me, tailgating, whatever. But I could be driving any car in that fashion and it would be the same thing, so I don't think the car makes THEM act that way, it's the car that makes ME drive more conservative and people are reacting to that. And when I say conservative I just mean sticking to the speed limits, giving more space between the car in front of me, slowing down more gradually, that sort of thing. I'm not a goon in the S4 but the stage 1 2.7t definitely brings out the 20-something year old in me. BTW I'm only 36 now.
I don't think car is "slow". I'm not driving it any slower than other car, or maybe I just don't feel it. But anyway, I know I'm not "in a way", I think people just feel this way seeing a car.
Hehe I don’t have the too slow problem. Probably the opposite and the main problem is all the nice noises it makes u drive it like a teenager. I need some tyres with grip. Yesterday the car just lit up the tyres when changing into 3rd at WOT on the freeway entry ramp at about 70mph in the dry. That’s on Michelin Pilot super sports admittedly well worn. Imagine if it had Chinese poor quality rubber.

When I bought my e34 new in 1995 I was a young man! Twenty three years later I’m a old man!! Lol. Cheers, George
It's not as bad as some other cars from the same era though...

I'm an old man so I guess it makes them an old man cars. Although the Touring actually gets more looks than my Calypso M5 (which I just put up for sale on BMWCCA site). It just looks special while you have to know what you're looking at with the M5. Owned the Touring since 05 and the M5 has been in the family since 08. They both need to go but I drive the Touring more than the M5.
I’m 25 and I drive my 525it pretty hard. While it is a bit slow, I have good tires on it and the manual transmission helps a lot. I’m often the first one going at a light, mostly because else nobody pays attention.

Now I will admit my '94 525i touring is not as quick as the '93 M5 and neither are as quick as most modern small SUVs, but slow? Try a tune-up, maybe some Sea Foam products, a good aftermarket chip and things might pick up a bit. The manual should be a positive is this equation. Is it possible there was a manual swap done and the original diff was kept?

Well well, you may have just caught onto something here. This car was infact manual swapped. And I have no knowledge on if diff was swapped as well. Well if were being specific this car was completely swapped. Motor and trans together. I also may just be being rough on in compared to my e46 m3 lol. But what could having an auto diff affect my performance?
They are very boring below 3000rpm, but vanos mainly helps out only a little bit in torque below that and has less aggressive cams above that. They are slow compared to modern cars, but fast enough for the modern slow traffic/drivers. My roads are filled with huge suvs or small econoboxes and 2L engines which may be potentially quicker but the drivers don't use them to that effect anyway. If you're the slowest car on the road either everyone there drives like I wish people would here, or there's something very wrong with your car.
E: I think you mentioned yours was a manual trans too. IMO the worst thing about mine was it's an auto, so slushbox power losses on a heavy car with no low down power or torque is the worst thing. Trying to get the gearbox shifting down when at low speed and econ mode takes forever and is underwhelming. It's not bad at highway speeds at downshifting and moving, just absolutely terrible from 0-40km/h
I think my NV 525 is slow compared to more modern cars; but I'm always stuck behind drivers with modern cars driving very slow anyway.

My understanding is the factory auto diff is a 4.10 and most swaps go to lower gear ratio like 3.23. I'm pretty sure the latter is what's in my car. The 4.10, if I'm understanding this correctly would allow quicker acceleration but would rev higher than a 3.23 and top out quicker. I assumed top end slow was your issue. Even the E34 M5 is not a 0-60 ace. One of the more mechanical fellas can correct me if I'm wrong or elaborate.
My 525iT with a 5 speed swap is fairly responsive, but I do have a Dinan chip and run premium fuel as recommended. After the chip was installed the engine is much happier revving above 5000 RPM than it was before. The E46 M3 has 150 more HP and 500 lbs lighter so that is a bit rough.
