BMW 740i Hamann ---> back to original?

    Hello all,

my BMW 740i is fitted with a Hamann exhaust system. Pls. see some pics below.

Personally I wouldn't have modified the car (it was like this when I purchased it), since I find the original E38 rear very distinctive and beautiful. This bumper makes it look heavy, dull, almost saggy. For that reason I am thinking to change it back to original, at least optically (if that is proper English).

    Now, my two questions are:

    1) am I correct that changing the lowest part of the rear bumper to a normal BMW E38 part is possible? It looks like it is a detachable part.

Back to normal would take cutting and welding of the 2 exhausts that are coming from each last silencer.

    2) is it possible to weld a new ending piece to the silencer so that it don't poke out from the bumper, but is hidden behind it (for instance with a pipe that makes a turn downward).

Many thanks in advance, regards, SopaDo

it would be easier to trade rear bumpers to go back to stock, since that rear would be highly desirable here in the states. You could just replace those mufflers with stock. hell if you weren't overseas id trade with ya in a heartbeat.

If you want stock look, then it would be better to get a atock bumper and exhaust and sell your hamann set up!! Dinan exhaust is also the same look AS STOCK.

?? Dinan exhaust is the same look?? No, it looks stock and had the turn down and no cut out in the bumper. As said, LOOKS completely stock but isn't.

thanks all. I am able to buy a stock rear bumper here for as much as 275 euro's.

Question: are those things made by BMW only, or are there dodgy manufacturers that copy those items (after market).

To put it differently: how to know that what I am buying not only fits (important), but that it fits excellently (most important)

I haven't decided what to do yet, but would anyone be seriously interested in my Hamann setup and bumper? I would be willing to work out a way to safely and trustworthyly ship to the States. pls. send me a pm in case.

    thanks Sabreslight, replied by pm!

Once more with regard to the rear bumper.

pls. take a look at the pics

Can somebody confirm that the setup on the picture is OEM? What is not clear to me as yet (and what I am trying to get sorted out) is if the lower part of the bumper (I mean this 'lip') is detachable and replacable by other lower parts (for instance with the Hamann system that I have). Is the line indicated with the red arrows a split between two parts or is it merely optical? Is the bumper OEM in one piece or does is encompass two parts?

If the bumper is in two parts, is it then possible to buy the 'lip' thing separately and where could I find the serial number?

Kind regards and many thanks in advance, Sopado

The rear bumper cover is all one piece, the hamann rear cover is attached to the bmw rear bumper cover, the rear bumper cover will have to be exchanged. Since if you can remove the Hamann cover the factory piece will have been cut to allow the exhaust tips to go through.
