Anyone install child seat tether fastener on parcel shelf?

My '90 735 is (mostly) ready of the road, and I realized as I tried to install a child seat that I'm going to need to modify the parcel shelf so that is has an anchor point for the seat's tether when it is forward facing. I can see by looking in the trunk that there are three threaded holes in the metal for this. I also found the necessary parts for the tether attachment (#7-11 here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=72_0070). I could not find the install procedure in either the Bentley manual or the online repair manual and was wondering if anyone here has done this to their E32. The factory manual seems to indicate this was a dealer install option. I was able to find some videos for folks doing this to their E36s but wanted to see if there were any write ups for the E32 or any tips/tricks from folks here. Thank you!

*edit* Oh, and part #12 in real OEM appears to be a necessary spacer and is grayed out. Any idea what the p/n is or on what page in real OEM it can be found?

I had a child seat installed on the single rear seats of my iL when my son visited with my granddaughter, for that I used the original seat belts and no problems. Seat belts were just long enough to fasten the child seat.
Maybe you check also here in the online EBA, if there is something https://bmweba.com/

Thanks, Shogun. EBA has a lot of good instructions, but, unfortunately, I did not see one for this install. Technically, the tether anchor point is not absolutely necessary for a child seat; however, it appears that it significantly increases safety in the event of a crash when the seat is forward facing. Learning that we need seat belt locking clips, as well, since our cars were manufactured before '96 and do not lock after being fully retracted.

Rear seating, no problem without a tether, And you can face the child forward. Front seat if necessary, just face the seat backward and the child facing the back of the seat. It even goes in tighter that way in front if you do it right. When they get a little older (35) lbs or more, they can ride right in the passenger seat facing front just like you with a seat like this. Once the regular seat belt is across, it's as safe as a normal size passenger. Been through all that in my Volvo, my E23 and my E32. Nothing like a good Foam booster seat to make a child feel grown up sitting high and next to her dad. They're a bit expensive these days, but even 20 years ago they were around $120.00 for a good one approved by all the agencies.

You can just use a slightly oversized hex-nut as a spacer.
Top tether use is mandatory on child seats in Australia, but my E32 was only fitted with 1 from factory. I found out from the local wrecking yard that E36 and E46 anchor points are directly interchangeable.

Thanks, all. If anyone's interested, the spacer p/n is 72117119896. I have all the parts on order and plan to install the anchor point soon.

Success! Took the rear seats and the parcel shelf out to discover the relevant hole was perforated in the shelf. Used a box cutter to delicately cut it out. Also had to remove the pre-cut hole in the sound deadening material under the shelf. Hardest part was getting the right angle to remove and install the seat-back. I think the final result looks great, as if it was dealer-installed. Works great with the car seat and greatly increases its stability.

I am about to complete the same setup with Atlas 65 seat, hope that I won't experience any problems after the info you guys provided. I had enough problems with getting car ready for everyday use already xD.

Let us know if you have any issues! The 7 is my son’s favorite car to ride in two car seats in the back now.
