Smile Would you buy this E39?

    Hi guys.

I'm brand new to this forum, and I would like your advice on this add.

    https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/...ationFlag=true

I am in the market for an E39, and the combi of v8 + stick is tempting, but the high km's on this makes me second guess this as a good idea.

I have just started researching these models, and I don't how weary I should be about high km 39's.

    Thanks for your inputs!

I would say go for it. The ad says it exactly how it is, mileage really isn’t a giant deal for cars this old cause you’ll easily get another 100k-150k miles out of this car if you maintain it well. I have one with the exact same color combination. Gorgeous car, good luck with whatever you choose!

It is a gorgeous color, looks like boston green? And the engine bay looks intact, no zip ties or ghetto fixes.

I would pass. Does not have the sport seats. Don't care for the color combo. Did it have the timing chain guides repaired? Never seen a 6 spd with non-sport seats, so it might be a Canadian thing. Looks like he/she has done some mods....tail lights, exhaust, M5 Rims, NASCAR tires,...There are other examples out there that would appeal to me more, but these are merely my opinions. I have had mine for 8 years and still love it. Good luck with your decision.

High mileage, and rust (from SE Canada, eh?).

Luftpost, mine doesn't have sport seats, either. Depends on how the original owner ordered it. Also, did you read the description? The guides and chain were apparently done at 260k.

97-98 E39 6spds had a very awkward sport package (Standard). Suspension bits were there but cosmetics took a while. Some may have been able to snag pre-99 sport seats, but it's a rare find IIRC.

As always, the cosmetics could be specified. I got the 10-way comfort seats.

Nope. Especially since the owner considers "M5 reps" and a Magnaflow muffler to be important buying points. Not a single word about what is really important, like changing the oil regularly, a cooling system or suspension overhaul, replacing chain guides or VANOS seals. Anyone who really loved their 540i would put these at the top of the list.
