Cool Replaced Fuel Distributor and Volume Air Box

The car had developed a little fuel issue the Fuel Distributor had been in there a long time, I decided it was time to change it out with one I rebuilt and is in Faq's-Rebuild Bosch 0438100075 Fuel Distributor, Volume Air Box Bosch 0438120111-taken a part, cleaned, sealed and reassembled- these are my spare ones or unit. I also adjusted the fuel injector flow so that they matched within 10 ml of 100 ml test run well within specifications of 20 ml, it took a few runs and a few adjustments to get them in tightened up in specifications. When I started up Air/Fuel ratio was set way too rich and turning the adjustment screw to lean the idle went higher and higher till finally it tapered off lean and then I set it into the power band. Runs quieter and smoother per test drive freeway and about town, when I was adjusting the flow of the injectors to get them within specifications of each other, some button caps were out and there was zero leakage or seepage while the jumpered fuel pumps and FMV was running. Note when doing this and lifting the sensor plate the audible squeal from the injectors is heard above the buzz of the FMV, the measuring cups filling up is interesting. Quite a bit of items to remove and install,, great way to spend your Saturday.. My button caps remove and tightened in easily, it takes some work to get these loose when they have not been removed in a long time caution is the word here, I stripped a few so I bought another 0438100075 FD for parts and got extra parts. Further Note the Button Caps Hex head, Fuel Distributor Hex Head valve adjustment screw to change Fuel Injector flow rates, and the Air/Fuel Hex Head screw are all 3 mm in size. I put a small dab of Lubro Moly LM 508 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of the Button Caps so they wont heat cycle seize up to FD threads, which is typical for long duration's without loosening them up and re-tightening.

    Cool

I made it a point to get extra or several backup items for this car, for that day.. The FD/VAB unit I took out I'll rebuild the fuel distributor and clean up the volume air box.

    Cool

Thank You John, The fuel distributor and volume air box that was removed, I have the Fuel distributor all a part and soaking in cleaner including the button caps and fuel volume screws, I have all new Viton 75 o rings for it and will repaint, reassemble and it will be good to go. I'll light coat the internals with 3 in 1 oil, button cap threads with anti seize and store it in air tight container to keep rust at bay.

I ordered and received Fuel Distributor O-ring Kit I made up from O-ring Store--good for two rebuilds, they throw in a piece of candy each order,,fast turn around time. I have the Pressure Regulator O Rings already.

Rebuild Fuel Distributor Mounted on the Cleaned up Volume Air Box, Spare-Back up one. Changed my mind about storing away the FD separately , decided to Mount it up with New Viton 75 O-ring between the the Fuel Distributor and the Volume Air Box.

    Cool

Cut out and made a gasket for the volume air box halves, these gaskets are with cylinder head gasket kits . I used shop craft hi- temperature gasket material and did a trace and cut pattern.

Here is my backup Rebuilt Fuel Distributor with larger 80 mm Air Sensor Plate ( Got from Somjuan) and a new plug( got it when it was nla) for the Air/Fuel Adjustment Hole on the VAB. The top half of the

Volume Air Box on 1977-1979 2.0 L BMW 320i is a direct , exact replacement on 1980-83 BMW 320i to get more Horse Power, easily, this is one of the oldest upgrades I know of..

The add to HP is not huge as with most Adds they are small increments that add up to more than stock HP, the further you add the more HP,, runable HP.
