Purchased another e36. This time at a dealer auction for 13.5k

Okay. I recently within the last year sold my 1997 m3 with 116,000 original miles. A choice I made because at the time I would have rather had my 2000 s4 stage 3. ( since I live in New England and we need aWD )

Well I sell cars for a living and have a small dealership in Londonderry NH with my best friend. So be it. At the Tulley BMW car auction came a 1998 BMW m3! This time only 94,000 miles. When I saw this vehicle a few days before the auction I figured it was an automatic. It wasn’t. It was a 5 speed, and it was a maintained Full dinan m3. In alpine white with power Vader’s. (Wish they were manual) So okay your probably wonder what the hell i paid. . Right since it’s a wholesale dealer ONLY auction. I paid 13,000.00. To be honest I was aiming for 10,000.00 But things got out of hand..

Ironically the m3 I bought 3 years ago that had 116k was totally stock. And had an accident .. But I only paid 6500 back then. The prices on these e36s are only going to go up. And might even reach the levels of e30.. Just not maybe for another 10 years..

I have it home now in the garage. It’s definitely adventurous going through the whole car, seeing what it needs. And wondering what I should do next. My first to things are removing the dinan logo from he trunk. And possible have the wing removed. (Does anyone know if this wing is original?) pictures attached. The car has all original vin tags. All besides one bmw dOT on the front passenger fender. Sun roof doesn’t work.. I checked the fuse. I guess I’ll check the switch and wiring next.

Dinan intake, full dinan exhaust, and dinan springs. Depo headlights. All fluids and oil look to be in good shape. No rust!

Well do you guys think I got a good deal? There’s not many instances where you see these cars. Maybe one every 5 years go through an auction. Atleast one in a 5 speed manual, alpine white with Vader’s 96k

Seems fair for the condition, year, miles and mods. You can drive an E36M3 year round in NH. I have for 13 years. My other car is RWD also. But my next car will be AWD, though not because I need it for winter. Rather, I need AWD to put the power down more effectively — even in summer.

Why remove the Dinan Badge? That comes as a badge of honor to some guys who are in to performance. It can't be just bought and applied to the deck lid.

That was a best case scenario retail price.... I don't think it would pull that much though.

These cars are overpriced today. I would not buy one at normal prices. But as with all cars, people get lucky sometimes on prices and the old E36 is a great classic car if you want a 20-25 year old car. I love my 99M3 and have had it for 13 years and do all the work (built motor, turbo, coilovers, etc) but would buy a 135i or 335i today for the same money.

Very nice find. I got my non M at a dealers only auction as well and to be honest when your buying for personal desire, we're going to go at it With an 'I gotta have it attitude'! If it's the original dinan badge I wouldn't remove it

Wing looks stock I have the same one on my car. Open the trunk look under the wing should say "heckaspoiler" and have bmw symbol and a part number. At first I wasnt sure but now I love it and kinda want a bigger LTW one now.

Off topic I used to want a B5 S4 really bad I hear they are major money pits and a nightmare to work on. How true is that?

Agreed but I would buy a Porsche 996. I feel like I stole mine when I see what other people are paying for them.

*** As far as the whole B5 S4 being a money pit.. It’s just like any old german sports car. If you don’t keep up on the maintance, it will come back to haunt you. I purchased my B5 s4 from the original owner, and he had every receipt from Audi from the first oil change, to all major services. All done at Audi! $80,000 since 2000 was the total in maintance receipts (which includes the stage 3 which was done at a reputable restoration shop!) currently 129k miles

You can remove the spoiler, but you will be left with 4 holes in the trunk lid. 99% that spoiler is OE BMW.
Crack money, even for a Dinan m3 if it was an auction.

Thank you for the love. Audi guys are salty that I drive bmw. And bmws guys actually appreciate an Audi. 🧐

The current tune has it at 321whp. It’s a pretty conservative tune.

If I add a 2 bar map sensor, and put it on dyno again we’re looking at a little more HP.

You can turbo the E36 and make 500 rwhp no problem. They go pretty good with 500 rwhp — about 125 mph in the quarter.

Looks like the same spoiler that's on my 328 coupe. Mine is held on with 4 screws and double stick tape. They'll be 5 holes, 1 for the brake light wiring. I think mine was added and the holes that were drilled were never treated and rusted.

Gave away my BMWs, driving a VW and an Audi now.

Spoiler is not OEM. You can tell by the shape of the brake light. OE light doesn't curve underneath the wing. Its a near exact rep of a stock low arch other than that.
    Here is OE
