Hey guys! I hit a pothole. My exhaust is hanging off... go to a muffler shop that welds, we lift the car. He shows me a muffler leak I didn’t know I had because my car is straight piped to a Rogue engineering DMS muffler. I have a 2.8 e36. He said I’ll chop this old part of the exhaust and put a new piece of stainless in. I said let’s do it. Car sounds completely different! Raspy and dirt bike like. When before my car was very DEEP throaty And masculine sounding. Still had rasp from 2.2k-2.7k RPMs but it sounded so good. Now I hate it! I went back. He said it’s this pipe that’s connected to the the two pipes. I took my old shitty pipe back just Incase I’ll have someone weld the leaks and slap it back on. But does the H pipe make that much of a difference?! Sheesh. Guess he was being lazy and didn’t want to make the connecting pipe... here’s a pic of the pipe we removed. I’m pointing to the connecting pipe that was not added on the new price he welded on. . Really wish I could let you guys hear the before and after. It’s literally a 85% different sound. Thanks for reading and your time, and keep those E36s clean!

Anytime you modify the original design,
you will definitely modify the sound characteristics.
A true exhaust system pro would have realized this, before the modification,
and warned you of the consequences.
But on the other hand, the fault lies with you for not specifying the fabrication details.
Yes, and probably some loss in power.
Read up on ‘H-pipe’ and ‘X-pipe’

What did he replace your exhaust with? I have a y pipe running into a single 3 inch and it is plenty loud and throaty down low in the revs. Absolutely screams up top.
