    2014 535d M package

New member with new(to me) car in the shop.

Hey everyone. New to the forum. Just purchased a 2014 535d M package on Tuesday with 57k on the odo. Been driving it around and LOVE it. The torque is amazing and fuel economy is unreal. Took it to a BMW shop to have a pre-purchase inspection done and the car checks out clean.

Anyways, day 2 of ownership and I'm just getting over the shock of iDrive and getting things to work. Suddenly the door locks stop working. My wife is stuck in the passenger seat. The latch is pulled and the button pops up, then goes back down. Can't open the door. Inside dash lock/unlock button does nothing. Rear doors won't lock with FOB, which does nothing. Only way to get into the car is via the key in the FOB on the drivers door.

Needless to say, my wife has to get out of the car by crawling out over the center console. She is not a happy camper and hates this car.

Car is back in the shop and being worked on. Isn't BMW ownership supposed to be better than this?

My driver door lock is sticky like this. I've found that if I press the unlock button over and over for 20x or so, the mechanism loosens up and then the door handle pulls will operate correctly. My car has low miles so I think it's just seizing up from lack of use.

Thanks adjmcloon. This is a 2014 with 56k on it. I don't think it failed due to lack of use. I'll see what the shop says tomorrow.

Congrats on the new ride! This lock issue has been a thorn for BMWs since the beginning, not sure why they can't get a proper mechanism not to break. I've dealt with it on my 135i, my good buddy dealt with it on his E36 M3, and countless other people too! Welcome to the club!

I took it in and they replaced a fuse to fix the problem. Then they gave me a short answer to what caused the fuse to blow. The blown fuse is a symptom, not the problem. Will monitor the problem for now. The wife has been ok with driving in it for now.

I just love this car. Torque out the wazoo and great MPGs! Fun to drive and a great ride. iDrive has taken me a while to get used to but it works pretty well.

Well I thought it would fail again and it did. Passenger front door won't unlock. FOB, nope. Inside unlock button, nope. When the door lock button won't go up, you can't open the door. Took it back to the dealer, they ordered the actuator and gave me a loaner.

Bought on the 12th. Took it back to be fixed on the 14th. Got it back with a brand new fuse on the 19th. Back in shop on the 22nd.
I've driven it 5 days and it's been in the shop 5 days. Not the ownership ratio I was looking for.....

That is frustrating. I'm still dealing with the same issue, driver door only. Seems intermittent, and is worse when I let the car sit for a couple days.

Let us know if they replace the mechanism. My car isn't under warranty any more so I guess I'll be pulling the door panel and replacing the mechanism myself.

Got the car back a couple of days ago. They replaced the front passenger door actuator. Been working great for the last 3 days. It's done this before so I will be ok if it keeps working for a few more days. Might even be able to talk my wife into going for a drive.....

Sure, electrical glitches are a bother on a recent vehicle purchase,
but it is a used vehicle, and the repairs are being taken care of.
Count your blessings, as there are worst things that can happen.

You should be fine with the new actuator installed, enjoy!!

No cost fixes and loaner cars are better than huge out of pocket expenses. I'm counting my blessings. Love this car. Been looking at wheels. I think I'm going to stick with the stock 19"s in a gunmetal color. Should look ok on an alpine white car....

Take your time, choose carefully, as wheels make a dramatic first impression,
but I agree those 19"s will contrast nicely!

    MIKYZZ4,

Going to go with 19", 8.5" in front and 9.5" in back. I really like BBS and HRE's but I can't afford $2-$3k per wheel so I found these in Anthracite:

    https://www.apexraceparts.com/wheels...c-8-wheel.html

Got some time so I'll keep looking at some nice F10's with wheels to get more ideas.
