    trunk fluid

Does anyone know what kind of oil goes in the reservoir for the lifting and closing of the trunk?

some say ATF is good, others say it ruins the entire system, others say AeroShell Fluid 41 or Pentosin, also that any CHF is good, like motul multi HF.

I need help, because after reading so much I don't know what to buy.

or better go to a bmw dealer and by one bottle?

I donīt want to mess up the entire system, but if I could buy cheap from another place I will, instead buying a small bottle and pay like liquid gold from the dealer.

    thanks guys

Aeroshell 41 is original oil. Don't put any other oil in it.

And if you are low on fluid, usually the cylinder leaks and needs to be replaced.

    I will search for it.
the symptoms are; pressing the tailgate switch or the switch inside the car the tailgate unlocks, I can hear the pump working but I need to help with my hand the tailgate to rise, or else it rises very slow.
with the tailgate full open I need to hold it or drops right over my head.
when closing and pressing the closing switch all normal, closes softly and gently.

Have you checked your oil level? Another one is that your trunk gas springs are most likely gone. Part 23 and 24 (for automatic trunk lid): https://www.etkbmw.com/bmw/EN/search...7N/ECE/41_1465

I didn't, my hint is low oil level, but after what you said I will check the level first then the springs, after that see if I need to refill or not.
Iīm not sure if gas springs failure are common in this model, at least in the E39 was a common problem but I will check it out before buying the pump oil.

They go bad on these what I have read. The design on the gas spring has been udpated. I'm having a issue that the trunk works fine, but if the car is at slight angle trunk will slowly close by itself. And also the cylinder leaks tiny bit.

So I gotta replace the gas springs and cylinder in close future. Nice 330€.

I see this is a common issue unfortunately.
By the way, I saw the aeroshell is mineral, not synthetic.
I’m a little bit surprised this pumps runs with mineral oil instead of synthetic.
